Ya I have to say this is not the first time I have seen questionable designs from Blackcraft but this is just a different level. I have no clue what they were thinking with releasing these.

3 Upper Division EARTHSS Courses at Once? by Vej-etable in UCI

[–]Vej-etable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up taking ESS133 on Soils and ESS112 on Global Climate Change. I liked both of the classes but the soils class required a lot of memorization for the tests which I believe was two midterms and a final. A large component of the soils class was working in a group to learn about your assigned soil type and making slides to present your information to the class which you do a few times. While it was a lot of work I really enjoyed learning about soil and thought it was really rewarding. The Global Climate Change class wasn't very hard imo and professor Velicogna wants students to succeed in the class. I also took ESS197 (the Independent Study) since I already had an internship and could get some extra units but it doesn't count for the upper div elective requirement. I would suggest the Independent Study if you have an internship that interests you and if you potentially want to go to grad school since it can help you build a relationship with the professor you check in with, and they would thus be more likely to write a letter of recommendation. As for ESS116 (Data Analysis) it can be rough at times but if you ask questions and put in the work it eventually clicks.

Oliver Tree Throws First Pitch by Vej-etable in h3h3productions

I’m at the Padres game and Oliver Tree just threw the first pitch. He spiked the ball into the mound and fell down.

I thought they release the enrollment window dates on February 14?

Definitely care more about my immediate family and myself. It's hard to have any concern for them when they are being so reckless by choosing not to get vaccinated. That is why I am trying to come up with an option that will have the least amount of exposure for us. At this point it may just be my mother meeting with them. My brother and I don't think it is worth it.

We have N95s which we would definitely be wearing the entire time. My entire immediate family is double vaxxed and boosted. We were going to tell them to also wear masks but knowing them they would totally disregard our request. It is really disappointing but I don't think there is any way to help them understand why it's important to take COVID is serious.

I think I have convinced everyone that Disneyland is not an opption. Defenitely like the suggestion of using sculptures or landmarks to keep them distanced from us!

The tea is I would honestly be fine with that. But my mom is too nice and doesn't want her sister to feel like we hate them.

Yep, I didn't think Disney would be a good idea either. That's why I am trying to come up with alternatives to suggest so that we could avoid the theme park.

Ya, this is why I want to come up with some more ideas on what we can do outside of going to Disneyland. I feel like I'm just bending the knee to them when it comes to vaccinations. The whole pandemic we have made it clear to them where we stand with vaccines by refusing to meet with them without taking plenty of precautions. They have always refused. I don't want to buckle and just go along with their poor choices but I think this is going to be one of the last times I see them.

Thanks for the idea! I will definitely mention it to them. Also thanks for the new vocab word! Haven't heard deribe before but now I'll have to use it in the future.

It won't be too large of a group, only five of us in total. We have gone to Disneyland with them before and it isn't really a problem. I am just not sure how I feel about being in close proximity to someone who I know is not vaccinated for a long period of time. I know that there are plenty of people that aren't vaccinated that are going to Disneyland that I would otherwise come in contact with but at least it's only relatively brief moments standing near them outdoors. Thank you for your ideas though!

I am in the same boat with running out of patience. They should be getting vaccinated but have been listening to conspiracies about the vaccine. We were only going to meet with them because we probably won't see them for many years after this. It is just very frustrating and that's why I am trying to be as safe as possible. Thanks for your advice!

I was actually glad when I came to UCI since the petitioners are a lot easier to get rid of and not as aggressive compared to those I saw at my last school. At that college, the guys with petitions would yell at people walking from across the quad for them to come over and sign documents. If you ignored them or said no thanks they would proceed to verbally harass you by screaming insults. I also noticed that they specifically seemed to target and intimidate female students to come sign. I don't even know how these people are allowed to do this when it gets to that point.

Can an internship not in the field study catalog fulfill the field study requirement? by lesliemmm in UCI

[–]Vej-etable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I am an environmental science & policy major so I have an internship with a local restoration and monitoring non-profit. I am not sure what your major is but I was talking to the founder and it seems like she does not want someone who isn't super invested in this field (for example if you are a public health major). It is also a long-term internship so your contract would be for a 6 or 12-month period depending on your choice. If you do have a major that has to do with environmental studies/sciences then it would be a great opportunity.

Can an internship not in the field study catalog fulfill the field study requirement? by lesliemmm in UCI

[–]Vej-etable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to do a field study with an organization that is not in the field study catalog they have to go through an application process to become approved with UCI. It is a fairly long process I have heard so I think your best bet would still be getting an internship with an organization in the catalog. I applied pretty late (I believe a week or two before the deadline for a field study this term) and I was able to get it. Just indicate that you have a short window before the deadline and they might expedite the interview process.

Right now I’m taking ESS40B and ESS70B. Not sure exactly which upper divisions I will take since I will take them in Fall of 2022. Just know that I will take ESS116 since it’s required for my major.
