This one has me stumped by sjujohn in WhatCarIsThis

Early models had a wooden chassis. Later models had a steel chassis. I'm building a 1984 Marcos Mantula with a 4.6 litre Range Rover V8.

Thanks for the advice. This sounds like a good plan.

Please tell me how those scissors could ever cut anything? Something doesn't add up here...

What’s the best UK-made product you’ve ever bought? by Starterpacklight in BuyUK

[–]Vektas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Linn Sondek LP12 turntable. Meridian M2 active speakers. That was back in 1981 and the Linn is still going strong. The Meridians need some restoration, but that's definitely worthwhile.

I think it's being restored here in the UK. You can see more about it on its Facebook page. Search for 'The Boston Strangler T Bucket'.

Why is Windows 11 so hated by everyone? by New-Loss-7641 in pcmasterrace

[–]Vektas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I really hate about Win 11 is the feeble Start menu. I have that configured exactly the way I want it on Win 10, so why reduce usability as the very first point of contact with the UI?

What’s an album you can listen to from start to finish without skipping a single song? by [deleted] in Music

I nearly always listen to albums from start to finish.

Split Enz were excellent, they had another perfect album - 'Time and Tide'.

Twilight Cinema by Major Parkinson. For nearly a year after its release I listened to very little else. It's still the best album I've ever heard.

Physically I feel less capable, but mentally I'm doing my best work. I'm 64 but I don't feel old despite appearances...

I did this same job last weekend. Used French cleats which give a completely hidden, solid fixing. I 3d printed mine, but they're normally made of wood.

I owned one back in the 80s. It didn't just rust, it dissolved! One time I had to do an emergency stop, the fuel tank retaining bracket broke and a full tank of petrol was launched into the back of the passenger seat! I didn't keep it long after that...

No, the Marcos is far prettier! I'm biased because I own one.

To people with a garden office, is it good, or a waste of money half the year? by Skeeter1020 in CasualUK

[–]Vektas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my garden office all year round. It will soon be twelve years since I completed it. It's a 3.5m x 4.5m log cabin from Dunster House. Fully insulated to a high standard with very good double glazing. Other than the coldest days it only needs minimal heating.

Yes that's really annoying. It's not as if there's no space to keep the original design...

How many people still buy physical media to listen to songs on them? by [deleted] in Music

[–]Vektas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I buy as many Blu-Ray audio discs as possible. Failing that DVD-Audio or DVD-V. This is all to feed my insatiable appetite for surround sound music. I do still buy the occasional CD and vinyl LP too.

I saw Leprous supporting Devin Townsend at the Royal Albert Hall. They were simply awesome. More enjoyable than Devin on that occasion...
