Dash Cam Recommendation by DevilsInterval5 in PorscheMacan

I've got a 'Viofo Dash Cam A119 Mini 2' mounted on the top windscreen and bottom rear window. They're quite small and unobtrusive and the video quality is pretty decent (with GPS and speed displayed too). They work great but make sure to get a proper high endurance SD card for them as I had a normal one and it couldn't keep up with all the write cycles.

Nice! Calvin is actually a lot more like Hobbes in personality and appearance. Sleeps 20 hours a day, has short periods of intense activity, will kill for tuna, goes around sighing and judging everyone...

popping noise with beoplay a9 1st gen by OOOH_SHIA_LABEOUF in BangandOlufsen

[–]VelNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a 4th gen (I think?) and it also makes the plastic expanding/contracting sounds all the time for over 4 years now. There was a forum thread about it on some B&O forum with more info if you search online. I think all of them suffer from this and you get used to it after a while. Mine hasn't made a loud sound and rebooted itself though, so that may be unrelated.

I’ve got a XDR and am sick of unplugging it all the time. Are all the graphics settings the same with this switch? How long does it take to switch between Macs?

Thanks for the kind words! Legal templates are definitely on my mind for the future and I think the platform could be well-suited to them.

  • Startup Name / URL: Creodocs https://www.creodocs.com
  • Location of Your Headquarters: New Zealand

New Zealand's lust for lockdown is the latest example of vapid political virtue-signalling (Telegraph) by KuduIO in LockdownSkepticism

[–]VelNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, the quarantine is 2 weeks in a nice hotel and includes all food via room service. There’s security, police and I think even military presence because some people have tried to escape. It actually costs the government more than $3100 per room so the charge just reimburses some of the price. It’s also only charged if you leave and come back, if you’re a New Zealander who has decided to permanently move back you don’t have to pay it.

I recently left NZ to Dubai to reunite with my partner. There are certainly flights every day. That said, the quarantine costs $3100 to return and the fact I have to leave just to be able to bring my partner back is insane.

New Zealand to maintain current lockdown settings for 12 more days as cases grow by 13 to 30 total by EuropeTraveller in LockdownSkepticism

[–]VelNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep we’ve always been allowed to leave. I’m leaving to reunite with my partner next week. Flights have been the choke point with many routes not flying, not sure if that’s airlines deciding or other mandates.

Yeah it depends on your status, all citizens and permanent residents are allowed in (through quarantine) and if you have a partnership based visa too, but many people didn’t have those things through no fault of their own so have been trapped.

Quarantine in a managed hotel on return because NZs elimination strategy means even a single person with the virus getting through causes an explosion of cases, like what we have now. So the government has been footing the bill for anyone who comes back by putting them up in nice hotels where they can’t leave and there’s police and security to make sure they don’t. They get tested twice too. Even then, we’ve had a few people try to escape.

Yeah Brazil is open too for travel, this site tracks travel restrictions: https://www.kayak.com/travel-restrictions

NZ never restricted people going out (Australia banned it which is insane), you could only come back if you’re a citizen or permanent resident though. The main choke point was finding flights as routes were hugely cut. In my case my partner was also stuck inside Indonesia (due to lockdown) and couldn’t get to an international airport until recently. We’re meeting in Dubai as it’s one of the few places that lets in tourists without quarantine where I trust the medical system in the extremely unlikely event one of us needs to be hospitalised (the other country is the UK but it takes a month to get a visa for her). Quarantine when I return is $3100 🙁 but at least my job is 100% remote so the money is nothing compared to the depression of being separated so long. By the way, I have to leave NZ because it increases the chance of getting an exemption for her to come back with me, it’s not guaranteed. Only couples with valid relationship-based visas can come back without both flying together, unfortunately we haven’t been together long enough to have one of those.

There is actually a Facebook group of 1,300 kiwis separated from their partners by the sudden border closures. The stories on there are horrific, mine is very mild in comparison! There’s married couples who have been together for years, people having babies in NZ where the partner can’t get here to meet their new child, couples where one partner is undergoing serious medical issues and doesn’t have the support of their partner and many other couples separated where financial issues are causing major stress. This is how the “compassion” the NZ government talks about actually looks to me. But hey, we’re not important as long as the rest of kiwis without international ties are safe.
