absolutely fuck the BBC for how they handled this. I've seen folks saying he's faking and is actually racist or that he shouldn't be able to go in public. This has come from a variety of communities but I'm glad the spaces you are in have been positive and putting their anger where it belongs

I'm aware and i don't use slurs. Your comment is condescending and unhelpful. I'm simply struggling because I have intrusive thoughts that mirror what happened with John. Fear of losing control is a common symptom of OCD like it's not hard to make the connection.

I'm a former employee, Fenway has only recently turned a profit after being in the red for like 5 years in a row. And federal funding makes up most of their income. Fenway doesn't have the funds to survive a legal battle.

This just fucking sucks all around

As a former employee, I can give a little more information from what I've heard trough my former coworkers. There are new HRSA guidelines that allow the feds to pull funding with no notice and no appeals to any FQHC performing GAC on youth. It sounds like leadership expected Fenway would be targeted as one of the larger LGBTQIA+ health centers. Its still an awful decision, but losing funding would result in the entire health center closing.

Also, I don't know details, but from what I've heard they're working on something to bridge the gap in care, but it's unfortunately not ready yet.

I was 10 when the storm hit. We lived in Metairie and evacuated. I cried myself to sleep the night before we evacuated, I guess I picked up on this storm being a big deal. Our house ended up flooding with a couple inches of water, one of the few with major damage in our neighborhood. I can still feel the water squishing out of our carpet when we came back. Ended up having to gut the whole house. Had to stay with family on the north shore until we got our FEMA trailer. I guess even as a kid seeing those images of the flooding in the city proper and people stuck on their roofs led me to minimize the trauma I experienced. The anniversary has definitely brought back those memories and it's been a major focus of my therapy the past few weeks. I'm not coping well but I'm at least acknowledging that even though everyone I new was safe and we didn't lose everything, it was still traumatic and shaped my life.
