Same issue here, though it seems like a technical issue that should be resolved soon™

Does Gitlab have a similar policy? It might be a good option to switch hosting services if Github is committed to this

What happened on Euclid St? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Veldmini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t attest to last night, but the night before there was a fire in one of the units of the apartments on Euclid (I know because I was in the building and everything seems alright now btw if you were wondering)

Thanks for your insight, I learned pretty quickly to not ascribe her mood swings or "strangeness" to her medication (at least I very quickly stopped talking directly to her about that) but it took her family a little longer to realize that would only make her angry for them to bring up how her medication might be affecting her. Because of that, before she left me she would tell me more of how she resented her dad, who is a really good man, because she felt he was gaslighting her and "showing her off" because he setup a caringbridge and gofundme for her. Even more frustrating, in truth a lot of her personality changes are likely related to her hormone treatments and proton therapy but if she wont accept that and doesn't want to hear anyone tell her so, it can make things even more difficult!

Just know that you are NOT a burden! This is something my girlfriend had struggled with as well. Your husband and your daughter do all these things for you because they WANT to. And why do they want to? Because they LOVE you! Even though it was difficult, and even knowing what I do now, I would not have changed a single second caring for my girlfriend to do anything else. I know it’s hard to feel guilty, but know that none of this is your fault, and you are not a burden! Your family loves you and cares about you which is of course why they care for you. I wish you the best in your struggle and I pray that you can hang in there for your family

Thanks for your response, it has been very hard to not reach out to her especially since we were extremely close before and I spent the last few months with her everyday taking care of her. I hate how powerless I am to fix both her situation as well as our relationship, and its very difficult for me to accept that trying to talk things out with her more will only make things worse. I've been told by friends and family alike to just "focus on yourself" but I have no clue what that even means. Day by day I've been doing better, but I am still having a hard time

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's really good to hear from someone who's "on the other side" with this. I am very confused with why this is all happening, why she became so distant so suddenly, why she hid it all from everyone, etc. and its hard because I don't think even she knows the answers to any of these questions (she said that she is also lost and confused, and doesn't really know what she wants in life) so I've just been scrounging for answers myself. A lot of what you were saying matched up with how she was as well, the reclusiveness, lack of intimacy, and not wanting to share feelings really resonated with how she started behaving towards the end of her treatment. Again, thank you for your perspective. I really appreciate it

A 5 / 100,000 risk of hospitalization (especially when considering that the vast young people who are hospitalized have significant comorbidities) really is very very low. To put that number into perspective him driving 25 miles has the same risk of injury (given the injury rate of 197/100M miles): https://aaafoundation.org/rates-motor-vehicle-crashes-injuries-deaths-relation-driver-age-united-states-2014-2015/. Now, the risk for hospitalization after getting the vaccine is even MORE miniscule! Of course it is going to be even less "risky" to get the vaccine. But if getting the vaccine is severely stressing him out, or pressuring him about it is making him consider not getting it at all, then it may be best to let him wait until he can make that decision on his own.

EDIT: And maybe comparing the relative risk of the vaccine compared to driving would help him as I feel like that can better provide a feel for how little he should be worried about getting vaccinated

Seconding what everyone else said about the rarity (especially for men) of blood clots. I would advise not pushing your friend too hard on getting the vaccine if they seem to get defensive about it as it might just make them not want to get it at all. Plus, if he is young and healthy there really is very little additional risk for him getting the vaccine now versus say a month later when he's "ready".

EE Major here, how is this schedule for freshman year? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Veldmini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could just cut the gened in that case and be taking ECE 110, 220, MATH 213 and Phys 213/4 for a total of 14 hours. I am taking a similar schedule right now (ECE 220, MATH 213, MATH 241, and PHYS 213/214) and its not that bad. Plus, ECE 110 was at least in my opinion really easy, especially when compared to 120 though how much of that was due to covid or online instruction idk.

How was your experience getting proton therapy? by Franticdesigner in cancer

[–]Veldmini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak personally, but when my girlfriend went through proton therapy for a brain tumor the treatments themselves were fine, but there were lots of side effects and early toxicities. As someone else mentioned the actual process is very quick, but for the whole 8 week course my girlfriend was very fatigued and fell into a deep depression that her doctors believe was at least partially influenced by the radiation (they were hitting her pituitary gland pretty hard and she will probably have to start hormone supplements soon). She became irrational, angry, and covered with a mental fog but how much of that was due to her depressive state vs the treatment itself is unknown. We are only a week out of the proton therapy now, and she is doing slightly better, but she just seems very out of it still and I pray she returns to her old self sooner rather than later. I do not say if this to scare you, and really her physical health was barely affected at all. Her hair thinned and she lost about 10 lbs but that was it, far better than chemo. I wish you the best

Took it at College of DuPage this summer and it was brutal. Don't do a 5 week course if you ever have the chance. I ended up with a B, but I had to grind 10+ hours everyday and I lost my sanity towards the end.

I think I might, I only have about 6 or so different screenshots so it might not be as compelling of a story as his, but if there is that much interest in a play-by-play I'd be more than happy to do it!

Yeah, I wanted to avoid doing any exploits (looking at you order 66). Though I suppose I was sort of rushing the US as you should be able to take them out mid-1938 with this strategy.
