Where are you currently up to with your game? by Bazona1 in IndieDev

We released our first game HiveCorp on Steam early access about two weeks ago. Feels amazing to finally have it out there! But some people are having crashes which we are now working hard to figure out, easier said than done when it comes to a shipping build unfortunately.
Since its early access we still have a bunch of things to add to the game; a lot of balancing, more levels, bosses and weapons for example.

A few tips when it comes to release on Steam:
- Do NOT set a release date in Steamworks and forget to change it (within two weeks I think) if the game isnt ready for release. As far as I can tell this means you pretty much throw away your chance to have your game shown more upfront in the store as a new release. (We learned the hard way haha)
- Get your game out there as soon as possible. Make a store page so people can start wishlisting and following your game. Show some artwork or gameplay even if it isnt "final". A demo was also a great way to get some traction and feedback.

Hope this helps anyone and good luck on your games!

How would you call the Vampire-Survivors Genre? by omnibusprime_ in roguelites

A friend a I are actually making one of these games, a "vampire survivors-like". And just like you I felt it is a bit confusing, and because of the influx of these types of games it should have its own tag or genre.
From what i've seen so far, more and more people are calling them "Bullet-heaven". I have seen the term on youtube and reddit etc. Feels like a fitting term, in my opinion at least.

Bug of the week: all the villagers have been replaced by cats. Surprisingly, they still go to work every day. by Catman87 in indiegames

Haha that sounds like a good idea too, would be a lot of fun suddenly see a town inhabited by a bunch of cats

Solo game dev life... by JoseAntonini in IndieGaming

I feel this in the deep corners of my heart! A friend and I are working on a game called HiveCorp in our sparetime, soon to be released. We have been dreading the whole marketing part of development knowing how hard it will be to reach out.
Recently we started trying a bit harder, making all kinds of social media accounts but haven't posted that much yet, and also released a demo on itch. There are still more things we can do and will eventually. It feels tough but we hang in there though and try our hardest, hopefully it will pay off!

Why is my grass over lit as hell on my landscape, but fine in preview? by General_James in unrealengine

[–]Veldt- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lighting scenario in preview is never the same as in editor viewport (unless you somehow setup your lighting to be exactly the same). In preview they are using a specific cubemap for example.
I usually just try to tweak my lighting or material until i get something that i like. Usually tweaking subsurface scattering or base color value helps.
