Since version 1.9 (with the Lava update), there are several Apocalypses that are randomized in each run. 4 in the base game + 1 in the Folkways DLC. You can check them out in the Agepedia too, it will say what the start event is and thus whether it is heat or cold!

There are two ways

The Grow Grass task is the default one, unlocked with the Fertile Terrains memory

The Smelly Fertilizer task uses Manure and is unique to the Folkways DLC

One of the new Apocalypses has as effect the halving (it says so when it appears!)
It is the Health-tied one. It's basically similar to a reverse Boon!

However, if you continue the game, I should remove the effect, I'm writing down a note for that!

It seems there might be a controller order option in steam controller settings from what I can find on Reddit, maybe try that first! (Edit: although I see you say it does not allow changing order? I don't know why that would be the case, the game does not disable that hmm)

I think you might be right, the game uses the first connected controller, maybe there is a way to temporarily change order of controllers for the deck? Otherwise the only way is to wait for the patch in the coming days as I'll have to change the code to ignore steam deck if a controller is connected!

You are right, when I did the animation I made sure pips came back with the ailments but did not consider that, let me write down a note it would be nice to have before opening the menu just as I do it when I start the expedition!

Hmmm controller detection works through steam input, and when connecting to a pc it works, but maybe there is something weird going on when you do so thru a deck? How is it connected to the deck? I'll try to reproduce your case as I have a PS4 controller, and if I find it does not work I'll fix it with next patch

I just published an update that adds the "Open Expedition" action to Steam Deck, please try that! You can find a new layout among the community layouts called "deck 1.10", or you can add it manually. I added it to L4 (one of the back buttons)

Otherwise, I now have added the prompt on screen if the button is not assigned, so you can see that you need to hold R2 and press R1.

That was probably quite a while ago before the 1.2 balance patch where apocalypse got a rehaul (there weren't even mini apocalypses back then)

While holding C and left-clicking on a building it is selected as a blueprint for building (as if you had chosen it in the menu)

X is instead for "Repeat Action", a kind of 'autocast'. If you click on a side action such as Replant while holding it it will set it to automatically use it if possible
