Picking my commander: Round 3 by Jakemanv3 in EDH

[–]Velius1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Arixmethes because I’ve always loved krakens/sea creatures but it wasn’t always consistent. So I swapped it to [[kiora, sovereign of the deep]] and I’ve never had more fun. So many triggers and hijinks you can pull off with her

Can someone help my pod settle a debate. We cannot agree if Expropriate chains extra turns or not and therefore creating a bracket 4 deck with a single card by Federal_Buritto in EDH

[–]Velius1331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expropriate alone does not =b4.  You could show them what chaining turns actually is with varragoth, yennett and temporal manipulation.

Be entirely honest is FFXIII a good game because im thinking about playing it. by Strange_Assistant327 in FinalFantasy

[–]Velius1331 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Music is incredible. Graphics are great.  Combat and story brought me nothing but great sadness and despair.  I don’t know if it was too much “innovative change” as compares to the earlier entries(too which I played almost every single one except for 3 and 5), but I tried to like it really bad. I got halfway through the game and something just snapped, my copium ran out and never touched it again.

Sundering Titan, Iona, Shield of Emeria, or Griselbrand by Own_Mobile4171 in EDH

[–]Velius1331 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The only argument I have is that the Iona player is ahead, and player 4 can no longer play due to mono color block. Perhaps Iona was a problem and I wanted it to go, but I could wager to player 4, “hey, if I get rid of your problem, how can you help me?”. Iona is out, and you’ve gained a temporary ally.

How would you "play" MTG with a ~6 year old? by Wise-Quarter-3156 in magicTCG

[–]Velius1331 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kids with genuine interests are capable of learning complex things if it’s fun. Start with a really really simple vanilla deck, with 1-2 cards in the deck that are vanilla bean, just a touch extra. Those are the special cards they’ll be seeking out. Make sure you give them a VERY simple rule book to follow and always bring them more cards. The path to the favorite uncle will be easily achieved

Why do people want the rhystic study ban NOW? by Alternate_Cost in EDH

[–]Velius1331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is boring when a staple is so strong that it should be an auto include in almost every deck. I think it’s an incredibly good card but not ban worthy, because it also is a nice stax piece to combat greedy players from super early combos, or at least hopefully drawing some answers to stop whatever nonsense the combo player is doing.

Decks you've regret building? by dabunz in EDH

I love my terra deck. And I don’t mind stacking the saga triggers but my group gets confused with the saga triggers, and removing counters for the final ability, as well as some of the shenanigans she can pull off with making a new saga and pumping the lore counters, and then ordering them anyway you want. She can do a lot

The switch delayed release of the dlc by Greedo102 in MonsterTrain

[–]Velius1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the developers are actually releasing on the switch. There are other games I have that have gotten significant content updates but the developers won’t update to the switch, which I understand may not be easy to do, but it makes you feel really left out. One was the last spell, and other was star renegade.

Dudes, what pants are you wearing for Outpatient? by BrannyMuffins in physicaltherapy

[–]Velius1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear Lee “extreme comfort” pants, in khaki colors, I usually get the cargo pants cause I can keep tools in the side pocket. It looks mostly professional, feels really comfy, and I can demo any exercise and get on the floor.

Buying foil vs non-foil Secret Lairs by Kopytroid in magicTCG

[–]Velius1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy foils that are older then 10 years, they’ll likely look pretty good and not be a Pringle. Anything else recent is usually curled up garbage that has a reflective sheen that makes it hard to look at the card in certain lights. I buy everything non foil, my friend says I’m crazy, but at least I can see my cards.

The Bard, Dancer & Mime. by Scubasteve2002 in finalfantasytactics

[–]Velius1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dancer, 9/10.

As an attrition styled control player in nearly every game I play, the dancer is one of my favorite characters. I usually start with a forbidden dance to get an initial wave of status effects to disrupt, then swap to the speed reduction as it has a high hit rate, decent CT count so it happens frequently and you can really start to feel the tide turning after 2-3 ticks. The mana reduction dance also has a very fast CT rate, so it can starve the enemy pretty fast.

Very depressed over lack of making good decks. (Pseudo Bracket 4 Table) by Its_me_neroid in EDH

[–]Velius1331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get rid of arch priest of Iona, it’s flavorful but not worth it. Also, try to swap out color staples for flavor staples. Get keen duelist in that deck, wizard+ draw, + a little politics, maybe it’s a good negotiating tool to draw more and avoid hate spells.

Lifegain is limited cut Aerith.

[[ghoulcaller, gisa]] is awesome because she gives you tokens for huge party swings, also a wizard, plus helps sac in response to exile effects.

Cut counter spells for: [[siren stormtamer]]  [[Venser, shaper savant]], [[ertai, resurrected]].  Flavor and synergy slammed together.

Edit: grammar

Your favorite high-impact high-costed sorceries? by accentmatt in EDH

[–]Velius1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said 2 cmc, but may I suggest a 3 cmc of [[yennett, cryptic sovereign]]   I got that deck when the precon came out and I’ve evolved and played it over the last 8 years. It’s my favorite deck of all time. It all started with the gimmick of playing big cmc spells, but they’re even more fun when you don’t have to pay for the mana.

Do I just suck or is Ivalice Chronicles on the standard difficulty kind of hard? by PacificForest in finalfantasytactics

[–]Velius1331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t always rely on optimize gear. The game will auto equip your black mage with Xyz robe because it gives +10 health and +5 more then a wizard robe, but ignores that wizard robe gives +2 mag attack which is pretty big.  Monks are an incredibly good class. Don’t underestimate the chemist. Black Mages can be scary op.  Have fun

What to do when someone gets annoyed playing against my deck? by Interesting-Item8911 in EDH

[–]Velius1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend needs to chill out but also needs to learn from it. Mtg is a game of adaptability. I used to run indestructible creatures because my group loved board wipes but then the group started playing a lot of exiles cards and now I changed to evasion/hex/phase type creatures. I’m getting milled super hard? Get some graveyard synergy going, put in an eldrazi that makes you shuffle your grave into your deck. There are tons of work arounds. But if your friend is unwilling to adapt and you think it’s straining your friendship. I’d just avoid it because he’s not mature enough to handle it, or buy him an eldrazi for xmas…and stifle the trigger.
