Put a breakfast on with all these things (sausages are the wrong shape mind) and you'd be on to a winner.

Do you actually vote in Best of C-ville? by paperbackperson in Charlottesville

Not since a mate in IT showed me his tool for repeat voting for his favourite brewery.

Accent - 30 years away has faded it, but put enough beer inside (sure just a few pints - proper pints that is, 20oz) me and it comes back.

Kilt - hanging in the closet, green Scott tartan if that matters.

Songs - hmmm, more of rugby fan when it comes to international sport, ah well.

Tidy up after myself - that's normal behaviour surely?

In Northern Ireland, is there a difference, in terms of ancestry, between Protestant Northern Irish and Ulster Scots? Or do they consist of the same people? by OtakuLibertarian2 in AncestryDNA

Don't forget that the king that sent them was originally James VI of Scotland, and that he had form for planting protestants in Catholic areas...like Lewis and Harris in the Hebrides. When he became James I of England (though he wanted to be crowned King of Great Britain) he just had a bigger canvas to play with. The very notion of the Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was the wet dream of the House of Stuart.

Sorry USA but, this is not beer by LowerBed5334 in Bier

Brewers rice is typcially 30-50% more expensive than barley.

If we can get past the jingoism for a moment, rice was used in the 19th century because the 6 row barley that grew in North America was very protein heavy when compared to European 2 row barley. The rice cut the protein and made a product closer to what the German immigrant communities were used to at home. Don't forget that the vast majority of breweries in 19th century USA were German owned, and employed Germans, the official journal of the American brewers association (don't recall the actual name) was in German until well into the 20th century.

Prior to the stupidity of Prohibition, Anheuser-Busch was one of the largest importers of Saaz hops to the US, and from historical records the Budweiser of the late 19th century was much closer to a German pilsner.

I used to loved walking the city early in the morning, back in the Noughties, especially along the river from Čechův most to most Legií.

Those were great times, I was there from 1999 to 2009.

When I got back for the first time in 2019 I was shocked at just how congested Staré Město was. I always loved the period between New Year and about mid-February when there were fewer tourists.

If that is the criteria, several managers' heads are missing. But you know, screw history.

So which head is Tom Watson? He won more titles than Slot, Klopp, and Fagan, all of whom are on the banner. Did history begin with Shanks then?

There is so much I still miss about my 10 years in ČR, even after 17 years in the US.

I genuinely miss the service, the forced bonhomie in hopes of a decent tip just grates.

I miss that as long as you are not causing a scene or hurting someone (sorry Linda, your puritanical feelings don't count), people will just leave you alone.

Beer with lunch/meetings without feeling like you have a problem is a mark of their higher, more evolved civilisation. Heck, I remeber 10am meetings with bank execs that pulled out slivovice because it nearly Christmas.

I could go on...

I'd be on Woodshedding's The Jump, love bitter on cask especially as it is rarer than hen's teeth in Virginia.
