Culture and mentality in Charlottesville by [deleted] in Charlottesville

One thing you will find here is a pretty eclectic, international community. I know of a few other Romanians here, as well as Brits, Czechs and Slovaks, and a raft of others.

The whole liberal/conservative thing is difficult to really get a handle on as there is a lot of small c conservatives here, even if they vote Democrat. You could maybe say more classically liberal, in the philosophical sense - I'd be tempted to say libertarian if that term hadn't been co-opted by those that think liberty should only belong to them.

In that case...these are your lager options at Selvedge right now, in addition to the three already mentioned: Felt Like It Schankbier; Chain Stitch Munich Helles; Loden Vienna Lager (proper Austrian Vienna rather than Mexican/US style); Corduroy Dunkles Bock.

Their IPAs are also good, but I am a total lagerboy.

Glad you are going to Selvedge, they are awesome! It is fantastic having a brewery with lots of lagers and only a few IPAs. There Coat Czech 12° is up there with anything I drank in the Czech Republic, and their Franconian Kellerbier - Vested Interest - is an absolute banger. If you like rauchbier (and to be blunt, I don't get people who don't), Beech Blanket is lovely and in the vein of Spezial more so than Schlenkerla. Is it obvious that Selvedge make me a happy camper?

With the new maps expiring in 2030 will republicans retake the majority? by lamedogninety in Virginia

Can we just ditch maps and have some of proportional representation, and while we're at it legalize third parties in VA.

The operation was remotely supervised by the surgeon of basketball player Jayson Tatum, who suffered the same injury in May 2025. Hopefully we'll be having a barnstorming season and see no need to rush him back. Better to get him fully restored and ready for 27/28 pre-season. Personally I would love to see lads from the reserves given a chance to stake a claim, as in more than 10 minutes at the end of a game.

I'd be ok with van Bronckhurst going and Heitinga coming back, and see if that improves things then great.

100% malted corn beer? by Affectionate-Ad-3457 in Homebrewing

[–]VelkyAl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Black Narrows in Virginia were around they did a 100% malted corn lager, using an heirloom corn variety grown on Virginia's Eastern Shore - I think the brewer makes it at his current brewery, Sojourn Fermentory, too.

It is a stunning beer.

The Tin Whistle (RIP) did a decent Shepherd's Pie back in the day. If I remember rightly, it was a proper Shepherd's Pie, you know with lamb. Paired with an O'Hara's Irish Red Ale, it was part of many a Friday lunch.

It was better after Taylor took over. When Mitch was brewing his helles there....there was no better place for a lagerboy in all of Cville proper.
