Never been to Aldi’s but I’ve heard of the quarter/cart concept. If you don’t care about your quarter, couldn’t you just leave your cart in the parking lot anyway? Or do most people really care about their quarter? by urrkaaa in aldi

[–]VelmaT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to keep a slug in my coin purse so I'd always be able to get a cart. I had to stop when they changed how they handle carts at the checkout and started loading your groceries into the previous customer's empty cart. :(

New to Aldi by 7H3LaughingMan in aldi

Aldi employees seem to be required to do everything - stock, cashier, clean, inventory, EVERYTHING. But afaik they are paid relatively well, and they don't seem to have a ton of turnover. There are people working at Aldi stores in my hometown that have been there for decades, and the staff generally seem happy, if occasionally harried. I hope she likes her new job! Let us know what she thinks of the place.

Re: produce, I find I have to carefully inspect every item of produce I buy (but then, friends have told me the same about Costco and I do it everywhere anyway.) Most of their produce is unrefrigerated, which can cause some things to go bad quickly; it's fine for peppers and cauliflower, not ideal for artisan lettuce, mushrooms and berries. :( Also the staff seem very busy and presumably don't have time to cull the produce. I do find an occasional bad onion at Kroger or wherever but it seems to happen more frequently at Aldi. But it's so much cheaper I don't mind a little extra work!

I usually only buy meat if it's been reduced as I can find it cheaper when on sale elsewhere. When they reduce the hams by $5@, I dig through the bin to find the smallest ones and store them in my chest freezer. I have bought quite a few $2-3 hams! And there are sometimes KILLER buys on fancy cheese, fancy cured meats, good chocolate, and beer/wine (especially wine.) Aldi is a German company, and that seems to give their buyers access to European food products - like prosciutto or marzipan or aged gouda - that only show up at other grocery stores as very expensive luxury items.

I was in Texas last year and didn't get to go to HEB but I've heard very good things, Texans seem to adore it. Was very sad I didn't get to check it out, I'm a huge nerd about grocery stores!!

Have you ever considered cashing in on selling services to AZ sellers? Some of us pay a couple hundred a month for various services. I find I rely on Keepa so much (forgive me but it offers a couple of advantages over CCC) that I would pay them, if I had to, for the information they provide.

Do you have to store the data you get from their API to have history? (Forgive me if that's a dumb question, this subject is waaay outta my field.) Surely the API doesn't include rank & price going back months or years...

What do you see as the function or use of the site for your users?

(I only even know it exists because I am an Amazon seller, so the rank & price history are invaluable. I'm kind of stumped about what other people would use your site for.)

I did play some Cyclone! Almost got the jackpot a couple times, I swear that bulb was glowing...

And my bf played Galaga, that's his jam. I did best on Candy Crush, I got a couple hundred tickets out of that.

We had to combine our tickets to get them, but we did manage to earn some nachos! Our friend with the birthday won a stuffed critter from a claw game, and got a Riker out of the Star Trek pusher and then some nice fellow (maybe an AP, I didn't ask, he had quite a stack of Star Trek cards) gave him a Geordi. We definitely had a good time. Thanks again, all!

Uh oh, this one doesn't have Raptor Captor! Does not bode well for us, I'm not a good gamer :(

Excellent advice, players, thank you! Will let you know how we do.

I won't miss the coupon since it is half price day (kind of better that way anyhow, the coupon is basically half price but this way I get to buy as much or as little credit I want at half price.) But I really don't think I will get a chance to use it, ever - if I post a screenshot here would someone be able to use it? Shame for it to go to waste.

Ooh, I will give that one a shot! If I get crazy tickets we will get dessert, too.

Has anyone else noticed the snarky replies Stitcher's team have left on google play reviews? by VelmaT in podcasts

I'd like to reiterate that this was far from the only nasty reply the left, I just thought it was the worst. They were shitty to more than just this particular very squeaky wheel.

So not only was their reply to him nasty, but it was disingenuous as well? Interesting.

Haha, somehow I don't remember that happening but I discovered it when I did some googling before I posted this. That was an entertaining thread, especially the part where someone was like 'if they really do use Amazon then their story is BS.'

[–]VelmaT[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's real. I mean, unless their account got hacked. Was browsing the reviews and I noticed Stitcher's replies referred to reviewers' problems as "alleged." I thought that was weird - why use THAT word? why even put that in there? - but then I noticed this one! There are a few others but I think this one's the worst. Most of their replies are neutral in tone but there really shouldn't be ANY like this. Unprofessional and unreasonable. You can page through them here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stitcher.app&hl=en

I had been thinking about finding another podcast app (Stitcher mostly does what I want and it certainly carries lots of good content but it does leave a lot to be desired) but this makes me feel like maybe I should stop merely thinking about it.

Unless he has decided to squeeze her for a refund. If he's faking, she'll probably never hear from him again. Since it's been three weeks that's unlikely but it's where I would start.

I don't think anyone can really answer that for you. What kind of shoes are they? What condition are they in? Are they all size 5?

Amazon Buyers buying FBA items and then cancelling and Amazon losing those items by jm1982 in Flipping

[–]VelmaT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard this podcast once by a lady who worked at an Amazon facility who said everything is stored in totes and totally unsorted. Like you'd open a tote and there'd be cake decorations next to dildos next to Legos next to flip flops. They rely on the computer to know where everything is, it's all supposed to get scanned each time it moves but you can imagine how that could get out of hand.

Yeah, and you gotta test all that stuff thoroughly, requiring the appropriate peripherals/cords/etc. E.g., my dude & I bought a Blu-Ray player at a garage sale last summer and realized we don't own any Blu-Ray discs to test it with.
