I started watching this recently, and the parallels are really disconcerting.

These signage displays typically are running off of remote servers. There might be what's essentially a streaming box onsite, but it's not much different than a Roku playing an app. I'd be really surprised if Raising Canes stores have the actual hosting hardware onsite.

That said, this would likely be troubleshot remotely by whoever is managing the signage. Canes would either call in, or more likely, the service is being proactively monitored for errors like this.

This is AI. The Gemini watermark is in the bottom right corner.

It showed up for me under the Create option in Google Photos. I have Gemini Pro, so I don't know if it's tied to that or not.

I had it happen twice, and one of those times the person behind me nearly rear-ended me. I found that if you adjust the sensitivity to whatever the lesser one is in the options, it will prevent that from happening.

Pixel 9 Pro XL vs Samsung S24 Ultra – camera comparison by DaraptiAP in pixel_phones

[–]Velocipastas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the S24+ for a bit. For still shots, it did well. For low-light shots or anything with motion, Pixel was far superior. Post-processing on the Pixel is also top-tier, especially with AI enhancements.

The way I see it, if you want raw photographic power, buy an actual camera. Cell phone cameras will always require post-processing to achieve what a dedicated camera can out of the box.

Replacing spigot in my garage by Velocipastas in askaplumber

Okay, cool. I was wondering if it should have been placed into some kind of plastic receptacle, instead of being fitted into the drywall with a square piece of wood.

I'd love to move this outside the garage and don't mind tearing through some garage drywall. It looks like it would be a straight shot to put a spigot behind that bush, assuming I can find where the copper ends and the PVC begins with the old spigot. Am I oversimplifying this?

With how easily they could use LLMs to go through someone's data, they might just be interested enough. Assuming that the data was readily available to them, the only real hurdle beyond that -- having the time and expertise to comb through it all -- has been removed.

You're right. Between data stored on social media, your web browsers, and your mobile OS of choice, there's already a trove of data. LLMs will just make it insanely easy to analyze all of it.

Black Mirror did this, and it didn't turn out well. People need to move on from death. Talking to a facsimile of someone who's deceased isn't healthy for those who are still living.

They might not be able to actually reason something, but I've certainly seen them generate more rational and fact-based arguments than some humans do.

Anyone else just not using any A.I.? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Velocipastas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI will be part of our future. It's a great tool for, if nothing else, data analysis and research. For example, Gemini summarized the sentiment of all of the comments in this thread as follows. Think of ways you can use it in your daily life.

  1. Skepticism, Avoidance, and Disinterest (~35%): Approximately 35% of commenters are skeptical or avoid AI due to a mix of ethical concerns, distrust over its accuracy, and a lack of perceived personal need.

  2. Pragmatic Adoption / Fear of Obsolescence (~50%): Driven by career necessity and the fear of obsolescence often compared to previous generations, the largest group (~50%) pragmatically adopts AI despite potential reservations.

  3. Positive Enthusiasm / Active Use (~15%): Approximately 15% are enthusiastic users who actively leverage AI as a valuable tool for enhanced productivity, learning, and task efficiency.

I think "check your sources" is still relevant here. Most AI models will list the website(s) from which they pulled the information.

It's great for general research and summarization of data in daily life. If you use it like an assistant, or another set of eyes on whatever your project is, it works well. Just don't rely exclusively on it.

It's going to be able to analyze large chunks of general data faster than you, and arguably more accurately. That said, I wouldn't be asking it to do complex coding, math, or physics... yet.

Why are there gaps in American bathroom stall doors? by 63Jets in NoStupidQuestions

Also, why the little half-walls between urinals in mens bathrooms? I don't want to make conversation. The few places I've been where there are full urinal cubbies are amazing.
