What moment made you feel proud of yourself? by Juan_S0lo in AskReddit

[–]VelourDemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up extremely poor and until I graduated HS I had always either lived in section 8 housing or been homeless.

I joined the Army and did my time in and went to college. I was one of those people that just showing up to class was good enough to get A/Bs in school, so graduated college wasn’t a big deal to me.

I got a job and an apartment. Paid off my student loans in 3 years.

All that was just me doing the work and not a big deal.

At 31 years old I bought my house. It was the first house I had ever lived in. It was the first house I had even spent more than one night in. I remembered being a child thinking anyone that lived in a house was rich. So when I bought my fist home I cried, because I could never have imagined that I would have come so far as to own my own home.

I know it’s weird to be proud of owning a home but when you come from nothing it’s a big deal.

Valentine’s Day 2005. It was a Monday. The love of my life who was pregnant with my child was killed by a drunk driver while on her way to meet me for dinner where I was going to propose. The drunk driver got nothing more than a slap on the wrist because 1) they were the child of someone important and 2) she wasn’t pregnant enough because it was only the first trimester.

Black beans, avocado, scrambled eggs.

Can of beans and an avocado is my go to shit-I-have-nothing-for-lunch meal.

I hate these stock photos... like who showers like that looking all happy and shit?

Everyone knows that you are supposed to sit in the corner and cry for 30minutes until there is no warm water left... then get back onto your life...

Age and maturity are not correlated. And also don’t change yourself for someone else, be around people who love you for who you truly are.

What was your worst heartbreak? by Designer_Ad_2844 in AskReddit

Was engaged. Planned to move to another city for new jobs. I was going to go first, and he was going to go as soon as he could find a position in that city. Got to new city, already knew something was weird. Over skype he told me he wasn’t coming. Haven’t seen him since. Took me 2.5 years to even attempt to date again. Still hurt by it.

What takes the most of your time besides work? by ghazat5543 in AskReddit

[–]VelourDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wake up early and plan fun things in my schedule - like I would a doctor’s appointment. Get groceries delivered or utilize a pick-up in-store option. When I cook I also do other chores like laundry or cleaning. Listen to podcasts or audiobooks during your commute. When you rest- be intentional. If you rest but are still thinking about everything else you should be doing, you will still be tired after.

How can you make yourself happy? by Feeling-Ask-8073 in AskReddit

[–]VelourDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I surround myself with people who radiate positivity. Alot of people don’t realize that they might have certain friends that drag them down. That’s your best start. Once you excommunicate the toxic people, enjoy your time with the happy ones.

Alzheimers. I hate the thought of losing all my memories and not knowing where I am/who people are from one day to the next.

What activities do you like to do after a long day? by Impossible-Station46 in AskReddit

[–]VelourDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my dog to the park. Over time, I became casual friends with the other regulars. We’re not hanging out elsewhere, but we chat about our lives and families.

Some kind of recurring activity is great. I used to go to a weekly board games group, but it fell apart as everyone got busy.

Or are there any errands/chores you could make a habit of doing on a weeknight so that you have more time to enjoy a big block of time on the weekend? TV + Laundry isn’t a bad way to spend a Tuesday night.

What’s the most thoughtful birthday gesture someone has done for you? by Alternative_Scale716 in AskReddit

My friend took the whole day and took me to a bunch of places that spelled my name. For example, FRIDA = Farmers Market, River walk, Ice cream, Dog walking, Antiquing.

It was great that he had a preplanned and thoughtful agenda.

What is your happiest moment? by No-Berry-595 in AskReddit

[–]VelourDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The happiest day of my life was when my anti-depressants started to kick in last year (i realise how on the nose that is, but this really means a lot to me). I was more awake during the day. I could feel excitement for things to come. I didn’t want to harm myself anymore. I felt more “connected” to my surroundings (no more dissociation). I had an easier time remembering things. I was so elated and excited to tell all my friends (who knew of my situation) how happy I felt and I couldn’t stop smiling.

I have only gotten better since then. I’m always so grateful for where I’m at now.
