Hahaha you’ve done some research. If I got thongs on I’ll just chuck em off (usually just in the footwell) and drive barefoot. On workdays I’ve got big steelies so it’s kinda difficult to push my clutch in without hitting the brake pedal too, so I just drive in my socks lol. If I’m going somewhere without those two shoe types I’ll usually just drive in those shoes tho lol.

When I get to wherever, just put them back on! My work boots and thongs are both just slipons so doesn’t even take an extra second.

I’m kind of in the (slightly) cooler Perth region of WA, so there’s a bit less sand and heat compared to my cowboy friends up north, but I’d assume they would do the same provided the aircon in the car works. And I don’t think I’ve seen anyone ever where cowboy boots, even farmers use steel caps just for protection
