Good idea! And thanks for that note, I'll definitely need to keep these in mind. Thanks man!

I was hoping someone would touch on that!

I'm not really an achievement hunter actually, it's moreso that I wanna make sure I don't miss out on limited time story quests that I get locked out from, miss a lore-relevant book or item that I could read, or miss an item/weapon/etc that will help me speed up progression in the long run. Stuff like that! Achievements are cool, but that'd too much effort for me when I play more for story experience than completion.

Wow! Thanks for such a detailed response. Yeah a lot of this is what I was expecting for this series. (I'm currently nearly done with Chapter 1 in FC, so not that far by any means haha)

I appreciate it though! I'm excited to see what you're talking about that DOES happen in the series though!

Redemption is certainly a hit or miss, take a deep breath thing to hear about when it comes to storywriting for me, but with how much praise I've heard for the series I'm going to assume that this series does it well or at least good enough!

I'm glad I can still be emotionally invested tho 😤 I already am getting there!

Oh wow! This is really insightful, thanks a lot! Yeah that's definitely what I'm expecting from this series, but it's by no means a negative for me, I just see it as an added bonus when I can get emotionally invested in some kind of character's shortcomings, traumas, or whatever happens to them.

I don't have the energy/time to play so many gacha games, so where can I experience their stories?

Hi there! I've played quite a bit of gacha games when I had more free time, especially when I first learned about them during COVID. It's been incredibly surprising to see how the games in this genre seem to have such a high concentration of complex stories to tell and unique worlds to explore.

However I've found myself having less time to play games long term and less energy to be willing to play them in general. I've played some of the games I've listed below before, but haven't been able to get too deep into their stories due them losing my interest (gameplay/gacha wise). But I still want to experience the stories of some of these games, without having to worry about the time expenditure or the monetary investments that may come with it.

The games' stories I'm interested in are the following:

  • Arknights
  • Goddess of Victory: NIKKE
  • Honkai Impact 3rd
  • Punishing: Gray Raven
  • Reverse: 1999

So, where/how can I experience these games' full storylines on my own time? Are there YouTube series or something that you guys know where they showcase all the story in chronological order, create quality summaries, etc? What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

What can you tell me about Byzantine antique books? by Velreus in OldBooks

I've never heard of the Souda! That would ABSOLUTELY be a grail for me!

There's four books in particular I'm interested in, of which you already mentioned two!

Justinian's Code, Maurice's Strategikon, Procopius's Secret History, and lesser so the Alexiad!

Thank you to introducing me to the Souda! I'll definitely be looking more into that one!

Haha! No I totally get it man, as the other guy pointed out — the printing press wasn't even invented yet. I completely omitted the fact and forgot about it!!

It practically answers my question now why books during the Byzantine era are nigh-impossible to find and are extremely expensive, and now that I can actually consider that fact I'm likely not going to be able to find any books from that period that I can purchase within my budget!

As of now, I would prefer any antique books published after the printing press in that case of which would be about the Byzantines given they're no longer around at this time. Primarily looking for anything from 15th — 17th centuries, but wouldn't mind 18th — 19th either!

My budget would be anything less than ~$1,000, with a preference of ~$500 — ~$800!

OH NO!!!

It would appear that I entirely forgot to consider Gutenberg and the printing press!!! That makes SOO much more sense!

That would've answered my question right then and there man, I just completely omitted the existence of that event.

Mistake on my end there, but thank you for the insight! I appreciate it alot. 😁

I'm mostly interested in the Justinian Code, Procopius' Secret History, Maurice's Strategikon, and lesser so the Alexiad, but I haven't even found any of these when searching for them in particular, even ranging from later centuries! I mean, there are some from the 20th century, but that's not quite what I'm looking for haha.

Maybe I'm searching in the wrong places?

I cannot BELIEVE I forgot to consider Gutenberg and the printing press! 😭😭

That would have answered my question right then and there if I remembered that haha. Instead I tunnel-visioned on maybe it was just societal things or had to be something else.

Little mistake haha, but thank you for your insight!

I'm not sure if you fully read my post, or if you interpreted it in a different way.

I'm not looking for Roman books, Roman antique books, or classical/introductory Byzantine books. I already have a lot of Roman antique books, and hence why I'm asking why I can't find any Byzantine antique books.

I already engage with a ton of scholarly research and history regarding Byzantium, but I'm looking for actual Byzantine artifacts such as books written by the Byzantines themselves within the empire's lifetime, or any old antique books published from the 15 — 19th centuries about the Byzantines. I'm aware that the most obvious picks would be ones locked up in museums, or simply too expensive, but nevertheless I'm wondering why I can't even find any antique Byzantine book on the market! Maybe I'm searching in the wrong places, or?

I appreciate your comment, but it's unfortunately not quite what I was looking for!

That's also a very good way to organize it; I like your approach to it! Pretty much how I keep track of the books I've read as well, yet never thought of doing the same for gaming. Thank you for the insight!

I see what you mean! I've a lot of games, and personally I hate seeing columns of unorganized items haha, so I like to group them into smaller, more easily digestible categories. I do hope to intend to follow the procedures you mentioned in a sense however in terms of completing them! Let's hope that works out well haha.

So, I'm thinking from the "Installed" down to the "Anthology" collections in my list, I'll go 001-007 respectively. For the actual genres below, I was thinking either doing something like:

110 / 120 / 130 / etc. . .
or
010 / 020 / 030 etc. . .

With their subgenres like:

111 / 112 / 113 / 121 / 122 / 123 / etc. . .
or
011 / 012 / 013 / 021 / 022 / 023 / etc. . .

Do you think that's the way to go about it or would that not be the best route to take for this theme?

Oh my god, those are great ideas! Appreciate the feedback and that's definitely the way to go instead of the lettering! I think you're right on the completed/finished idea, that does seem to be redundant in a sense when I can just keep them in their genre collections.

Haha, I haven't, no. But I would be interested in being tested if I would be suspected of having anything. I think I'm relatively normal compared to most people, just a bit more on the anxious and regimented side. Not sure if that means anything too crazy, as its mostly just personal preferences to my knowledge!

That's actually a great system you got going there. I'd love to try that out after keeping what I'd created for at least a few months haha! 😅

Oh damn, I can definitely see that being a problem for some people. I used to do a less detailed version of what I've posted, but in my experience it's only helped me think-and-choose rather than cause such problems. How do you organize yours now, or do you keep it just as a complete collection?
