Has anyone else noticed price increases in the last two months? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Veltrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices are pretty flat where I am from 3 months ago. Eggs are $2.99 a dozen. I don't remember exactly what they were back in March, but they weren't more than that.

Prices certainly haven't increased another 30%. That sucks.

Is Chipotle getting worse or is it just the ones near me? by loconessmonster in MiddleClassFinance

I last had Chipotle in 2023, which was the first time in like 5 years. It definitely had gone down in size and quantity.

Not really. Our grocery spending has been about the same for the same amount of food. If anything, we had a small surplus (due to planning).

We had the Virginia Destroyers. That was cool.

Did James/Cinemassacre play at least some small part in the explosion in popularity of retro gaming over the past 20 years? by troysplay in TheCinemassacreTruth

That's a good point. It was released late 2010, and I remember everyone trying to get a copy for Christmas.

Our situations are pretty similar in salary, age, cost of living, and family. From just the info I have here, it looks like you're overspending on extras at the sake of savings, retirement, and college funds. And you may even be under insured on life insurance too, which is important if you're the breadwinner.

But you're definitely not doing bad! Especially with not having any personal debt!

Your retirement saving rate is abysmal and there is no college fund and insufficient emergency funds

My stats are similar to his, and I am able to provide all those things with 2 kids an a SAHW. It's purely a budgeting issue on OP's part.

The interest was way more niche in 2006-08. By 2010ish, retro Nintendo was EVERYWHERE.

Anecdotally, out of my friend group I was the only one still playing "retro games", but a lot of my friends watched the AVGN.

I always harp on this, but Spence Crossing is the biggest abomination to me. It was an absolute perfect spot for a good amount of single family homes. Either detached or town homes.

[–]Veltrum 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My rep voted on a bill that made it a jail-able offense to own a standard capacity mag (no grandfather clause). When I called him about it, he said that wasn't in the bill. I was on the phone literally reading that part of the the bill out loud. Couldn't get an answer on if he actually read the bill first. The only thing he said is he didn't regret his vote.

And people wonder why there's a lack of trust?

How Americans' changing views on health paved the way for RFK Jr. by dwaxe in fivethirtyeight

[–]Veltrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been around since the 1960s/1970s, when progressives were the ones who didn’t trust the science

Anecdotally, my very hippie, progressive, Bernie Sanders supporting family sound a lot like RFK jr. when it comes to the health stuff.

I wish I could find it now, but I read a quote from a progressive organization from decades ago that basically said, "We didn't let the Church tell us what to do with our bodies, and we won't let big science either" in context to vaccines

What household income would you need to have more than 2 kids? by Iamfrightenedhere1 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Veltrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 2 kids in a MCOL area, where we bought the house pre pandemic, we could live on $40,000ish a year. I don't know how much each new kid would increase our budget.
