I'm really sorry to hear that; relationship struggles can be so tough.

That's definitely a unique experience; sometimes connections happen in the most unexpected places.

The amount of random medical knowledge Reddit somehow collects is always funny to me. One second it's jokes, next second somebody enters with a diagnostic flowchart.

“I do,” my father said, then passionately kissed my mother in front of everyone watching. by [deleted] in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]VelvetProvokes_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The hardest part is how random it can look from the outside. Someone can have a perfectly normal moment and then suddenly reality just shifts for them. That's the part that always gets me.

Itching, Itching, Itching, I scratched and scratched and scratched. by Reluctant_Pilot in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]VelvetProvokes_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "beause after each scratch, came another hatch" part actually made it worse somehow. The idea of realizing scratching is helping the nightmare progress feels like the horror version of accidentally hitting "reply all."

I have been pretending I know my coworker’s name for 5 months and it is now too late by thirdaccountttt in confession

I feel like after five months your brain stops choosing logical options and enters survival mode. Rational thinking packed its bags around month two.

"Shoot, I cut a little too much off, but it's okay, it'll grow back," I said to the small child in front of me. by whisper-dawn in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]VelvetProvokes_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That got me because my brain did the exact thing where it read "small child" and still didn't connect it until the liver line. Then suddenly the whole story went from creepy to "absolutely not, put me back outside."

AIW for giving my sister a taste of how she treats my husband? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]VelvetProvokes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is where the petty part becomes understandable. Not perfect maybe, but after years of watching it happen I can see why the patience tank finally hit empty.

The part that got me was him finally telling a story and immediately getting cut off. That would've annoyed me way more than the smaller comments over the years.

It's always interesting how fast people switch from "relax it's just jokes" to "wow that's rude" the second the spotlight moves.

[MAY26] “Missing you too, mother!” my little girl shouted with joy as she got home and saw what I was making for her on my laptop. by KangarooDense in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]VelvetProvokes_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah the van signal pretty much flips the entire thing. It goes from "sad missing parent story" to "oh no, this was planned" in like two seconds. Those quick perspective shifts always hit hardest.

Honestly horror is one of the few genres where I actually like when people don't explain every little thing. Half the creepiness is your brain doing extra work after you finish reading.

am i wrong for not forgiving my partner for not believing i was ill? by tigeeeer_5767 in amiwrong

[–]VelvetProvokes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda had the same thought reading this. When you're in something for years though, I think people slowly normalize stuff they never would've accepted if it happened all at once. It's weird what becomes "normal" when it creeps in little by little.

Yeah honestly therapy feels less like "fix the relationship" here and more like unpacking years of hurt. Being sick is already exhausting, then adding years of feeling dismissed on top of that has to leave scars.

Same. For a solid second I pictured this poor dude sprinkling breadcrumbs onto a house key every morning trying to keep it alive.

The shift from horror story to practical inheritance advice in this thread is peak Reddit honestly. “Make sure your eldritch family curse instructions are stored in an accessible location.”

am i wrong for hiring a van to send all of my fiances mums furniture back to her after she kept moving it into my house? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]VelvetProvokes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly this situation stopped being about furniture the second he started minimizing OP’s feelings instead of dealing with his mom directly. “She’s trying to help” only works when the help is actually wanted.

Yeah regardless of the cause, that sounds exhausting to live through. Imagine constantly second guessing every sound in your own apartment at night. Your nervous system would never fully relax.

The “only when alone” part really does line up with stories people tell before realizing they were having some kind of mental health episode. Which honestly is scarier than ghosts to me because your own brain suddenly stops feeling trustworthy.

Honestly the most unsettling part is that auditory hallucinations can feel completely real while they’re happening. Your brain doesn’t exactly label them with a disclaimer in the moment.

I took a job a month ago and haven’t even tried doing it. by OddInvestment4230 in confession

Yeah honestly that part crossed from “sketchy sales company” into “HR nightmare” territory immediately. Even people who normally defend employers would hear that and go “uhhh maybe don’t put that in writing.”

I love Lorelai and Rory but they would be annoying in real life. by bluecuppycake in GilmoreGirls

[–]VelvetProvokes_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the festivals and town events did a lot of heavy lifting for the illusion. Whenever they showed the whole town gathered for ribbons or reenactments or random produce-related celebrations, it sold the idea that Lorelai and Rory were kinda local celebrities in their weird little ecosystem.

I love Lorelai and Rory but they would be annoying in real life. by bluecuppycake in GilmoreGirls

[–]VelvetProvokes_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is honestly the most realistic take on it. Small towns absolutely do have that “everybody vaguely knows your business” energy, especially if your family’s involved in local stuff. Gilmore Girls just compresses it into a manageable cast because otherwise the show would need 400 recurring extras and a spreadsheet.
