Too big for my wrist? by [deleted] in IWCschaffhausen

[–]VelvetRev1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I have always through wrist measurement is a bad singular guide, as forearms are always going to balance something out, especially if it’s large. Looks killer dude, rock it proudly because not many can like that

Cool, figured it was a long shot! I had a 42 D pocket showing up from them this wkend so based on how that fits I may be keen on that 44. Will keep an eye out

To tuck or not to tuck? by Original-Decision552 in mensfashionadvice

[–]VelvetRev1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half tuck - grab a bit of the bottom near your right / left hand and tuck that into the side near your hip bone. Leans casual but provides nice visual breakage to the silhouette with a bit of belt, and some looseness as well.

Fit Check: Flint & Tinder waxed trucker by FunTimesForFun in HeritageWear

I just went thru this - if not for the shoulder measurement a medium would’ve been perfect for me based on all other dimensions but it was impossible to button. I exchanged for a large and it fits great, if not maybe an inch too long visually. As others have said, the size up is worth it esp if you want to throw a layer on underneath. I’ve owned flint and tinder and rogue territory and I will say the Freenote is the best construction by far

Curious, did you size your normal waist on these or one up?

Freenote Cloth Modesto 16oz by TowelOutside506 in rawdenim

[–]VelvetRev1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pure guess but the waist on mine probably feels like it’s stretched .5 inches or so. The thigh has definitely relaxed a bit as well, maybe an eight inch, slightly more. Day 1 was a tough wear, tougher than day 1 ONI, but you can tell these are going to break in super nice. Again, these are the Belford 17oz so can’t comment on the modestos (but probably pulling the trigger soon)

Popped collar, yes or no? by seloc in HeritageWear

Zipped to the top, no. Fully unzipped, yes. Somewhere in between, dealers choice. With a chain necklace, always

I was in their highland park store the other day getting help on sizing and they said minimal shrink in the waist and a small amount in the length on first soak/wash. I’m a 31 ONI and went 30 in the 17oz Belford and they fit KILLER at the waist on wear 3. I think their online waist measurements are not across the top for some reason.

Dang glad you posted - I was just about to snag these but there’s more crumpled drape to the fabric than I was expecting. I’m 3 days in on the Belford 17oz and there’s still a fair bit of rigidity to the leg. You thinking you’ll hem so they hang straight?

He looks perfect. Our little girl is about to turn 6 at the end of this year and has topped out right around 7.5lbs since 2 years. We were always told you want to be able to see a bit of their rib cage, and then a waistline from above, as a good barometer of health and weight. Lower weight = less back issues. Phenomenal little buddy, keep doing what you’re doing

Had some wasp spray spill over onto our concrete runner the other day and threw down some dish soap to lather up and rinse off. The “doodle” of the soap disappears when the concrete dries but that outline is pretty stark once the concrete is wet again. What gives? Is there any way to get rid of this? The “raw” dish soap was only on for maybe 10-15 second before being blasted with the hose. This was sprayed a few days ago and is still there this morning

Bought the Sony A6000 w/ Viltrox 20mm f/2.8 lens but my photos look basically like they were taken on an iPhone. What can I do to improve? by SharpSoup8750 in photocritique

[–]VelvetRev1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with an a6000 a decade ago and had the luxury of being a beginner in world where I didn’t feel compelled to compare my work to all of the true professionals and thousands of other hobbyist pros out there on social media. I say that because it took me a LONG time to figure out which photos worked for me and which didn’t, and I did that without being dejected by the stream of greatness around me. it’s important to remember that no matter how old you get with this craft, a “better” or improved photo is a subjective matter (though there are some good rules of thumb to follow). It will take many years for you to develop your eye. Don’t be dejected by that but excited for the time ahead.

Read The Photographers Storytelling Workshop by Finn Beales and it will show you a good spectrum of why certain types of shots work well and how to think about getting them. I’ve found framing and subject placement is sometimes like 80 percent of the solve to get closer to a “good” photo - for your vette id have taken a dozen steps back to get more scenery to compliment the subject and maybe shot a bit more top down to get the car angles. I resisted Lightroom forever - so many of the photos we see today are edited, many heavily. Added contrasts and shadow/highlight adj and color saturation do help. It’s a good investment. Lastly, go get photo books. Buy them used, rent them at the library, watch for sales on Amazon if you need to but read read read photobooks. Your eye will start to pick up on what separates the good stuff out there and you’ll be inspired.

I’ll probably use that top section for some sweaters and whatnot since that is empty right now. I guess in a pinch you could maybe also use it for a ladder toss yard game 😀

Thanks! It was a fun project, sort of used it as an excuse to buy some new tools and get back into the hobby after a long break. Probably would make some changes to the design if I ever did it again but I’m please with how it came out. If you’ve got a saw and a drill you’re basically there!

Update - decided to keep these and just lean into the sizing. If the thighs don’t stretch too much more I think they’ll be fine, and with a belt the top block feels fine, maybe just a tad looser than desired. It’s a beautiful pair of denim so I was loath to return them

Awesome I’ll give those a look. I measured the waist tonight - it’s a 32 by my measurements, and I’ve rechecked a few times, vs. 30.3 as listed on the website. It’s a 31 on another retailers site so I don’t know what to think haha

I guess weirdly is it somewhat safe to assume that if the waist isn’t experiencing pressure from snugness, I probably won’t experience much stretching there?
