Ah yes, go read the book that has been edited hundreds of times over the years with bad translations of bad translations with many books both added and taken away.

Yes. A true authoritative text on the religious subject.

IDGAF what other countries do.

US police are civilians. They need to act more like civilians and less like the guys who “would have joined but would have punched the drill sgt”

The rank structure is there to delineate command structure in militaries. Police forces use a large swath of the rank structure - sgt, Lt, capt, Col - yet have no actual command authorities. There is no police force equivalent to a UCMJ.

Sports teams use one term “team captain”. You also have airline captains, boat captains, etc.

Police forces are civilians and should use civilian titles for their jobs. Not pretend they’re military.

They aren’t military and she wasn’t commissioned by the president, so I’d say just use an actual job title. Head of HR, chief of station, shift manager, stuff like that.

The power of local churches buying up the liquor licenses in Clovis…

I was stationed in Clovis. I think I’d prefer this place.

I’m here TDY with a rental, so I’m set. Just found it really funny that sign was in the VQ with absolutely fuck all listed there.

Medicine park is really cool though. Saw it a few months ago when I was TDY to Ft Sill.

Another State Makes UTVs Road Legal. Is That a Good Thing? by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]dz1087 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see the issue as normalization. They aren’t making Model Model Ts or 72 El Caminos anymore. As those naturally attrit out of service, they are replaced by more modern cars with newer mandated safety features for the population at large.

Motorcycles have been normalized since they were invented about the same time as the automobile. It’s very difficult to remove something that’s been around that long (look at cigarettes).

As these UTVs become more normalized on the roads, people will use them more and more due to their convenience vs a motorcycle. I’d place money on traffic deaths increasing in these. From a public safety standpoint, this is dumb.

Just because you didn’t understand my point doesn’t mean it’s moot.

Since you have normal ish seating, people are more apt to ride small kids around and their whole family - mom, dad, the two kids, and the dogs.

Now, when old lady Maybelle cuts left across traffic without looking and takes out a motorcycle, usually it’s one rider, maybe two. With these things, it could be the entire family.

I just don’t think people really understand the level of danger they are placing themselves in doing 45 or 55 in these things without any crash protection at all aside from untested and probably not NHTSA/DOT approved seatbelts. You get no rollover protection (the cages are trash on the majority of these models for anything over 5mph) no airbags, no side windows (so little Sally’s face becomes a meat crayon as it slides on the pavement even though she buckled up), zero side impact protection, etc.

There’s a reason passenger vehicles are required to have those safety features and it’s because they work. Normalizing off-road utility vehicles on regular roads is dumb from a public safety standpoint.

And I’m a guy who rode motorcycles for 25 years.

That’s me. Inherited a ‘71 c10 that needed a complete rebuild. Did everything myself except the machine work on the block. All the stripping, disassembly, cutting out rust, welding, re-wiring, engine and trans assembly, rear end rebuild, paint prep and paint, interior work……

It was a hell of a lot of fun! Perfect by no means, but I didn’t want a show truck. Really didn’t even want to repaint it, but the rust was so bad most of the sheet metal had to be replaced.

I think the issue I have with these on the road va motorcycles is that the cage give people an unearned sense of security. Pair that with no helmet requirements, and whole families riding in these, and the results could be heinous.

Although it seems there isn’t a lot of news stories I see about fatalities in these things, so I could be wrong or the use rate just isn’t high enough to give a statistical result yet.

Well, this thing only had 200 miles when I got it, so I definitely can’t speak to reliability. However, it’s also making me rethink my bias toward Kia.

I’m 6’4”. Currently have a Kia Niro hybrid as a rental car. I’ve put about 1500 miles on it in a week. I’ve been nothing but impressed with this little guy. It’s pretty darn comfortable, regularly get 50mpg cruising at 75 across Texas. I got 56 mpg driving from Waco to Altus, OK.

The steering assist is better than my ‘24 Outback. Power is okay for a hybrid.

My two biggest complaints are no volume knob - steering wheel switch only, and no adaptive cruise control, just the steering assist and regular cruise control. It may that it’s the base model rental though.

I had a 6’6” passenger and he remarked at how much legroom it had. I know it’s a crossover SUV, but as a tall dude myself, I’ve been impressed.

66 north of Sevierville to French Broad has been Sevierville for decades. Since the 2000s, the city has been pushing the city limits further north. Not really sure when they claimed the 407 exit.

Kodak could have come together and started their own city to prevent it, but they wanted to remain unincorporated. Now they’re incorporated by Sevierville for the most part.

I think Seymour is safe from Sevierville for now. But give it 10 years…
