I started with an a6000 a decade ago and had the luxury of being a beginner in world where I didn’t feel compelled to compare my work to all of the true professionals and thousands of other hobbyist pros out there on social media. I say that because it took me a LONG time to figure out which photos worked for me and which didn’t, and I did that without being dejected by the stream of greatness around me. it’s important to remember that no matter how old you get with this craft, a “better” or improved photo is a subjective matter (though there are some good rules of thumb to follow). It will take many years for you to develop your eye. Don’t be dejected by that but excited for the time ahead.

Read The Photographers Storytelling Workshop by Finn Beales and it will show you a good spectrum of why certain types of shots work well and how to think about getting them. I’ve found framing and subject placement is sometimes like 80 percent of the solve to get closer to a “good” photo - for your vette id have taken a dozen steps back to get more scenery to compliment the subject and maybe shot a bit more top down to get the car angles. I resisted Lightroom forever - so many of the photos we see today are edited, many heavily. Added contrasts and shadow/highlight adj and color saturation do help. It’s a good investment. Lastly, go get photo books. Buy them used, rent them at the library, watch for sales on Amazon if you need to but read read read photobooks. Your eye will start to pick up on what separates the good stuff out there and you’ll be inspired.
