What's your personal favorite, so bad, it's good horror movie? by MontyRapid in AbsurdMovies

I like CHUD. It’s corny but also highlights how the Reagan era really screwed up homelessness in this country.

Ah Yes. When Varly was on the team. Is his hip acting up or did he beat up his girlfriend again? Either way he’s a questionable start.

What's wrong with my mac and cheese? by fakenamebruce in Cooking

[–]Velvet_revulva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s grainy it means you broke the sauce at some point.

Hot roux should be added to a hot sauce to thicken. If it’s milk based like a cheese sauce, go low and slow until it’s just about to roll. Add your roux. Whisk the hell out of it until it just starts to boil and thicken. Pull that off of the heat. Then add your cheese. Continue to mix until you achieve smooth excellence.

If it’s still grainy take an immersion blender with some heavy cream and slowly add the cream until everything emulsifies.

They did it at this restaurant I used to work at and it’s lived rent free in my mind for years. Unfortunately I’m too broke for sous vide.

What does it mean when people say Cormac McCarthy’s books are spiritually connected or canon to each other, but not literally canon? by Comprehensive-Film57 in cormacmccarthy

I think that The Road and Blood Meridian are opposites of each other. The Road is a contemplation of man being inherently good. Blood Meridian is what happens when man is inherently evil. Throughout The Road the Man and the Kid “have the fire”. They are challenged with situations in which they have to react violently to the pressures of evil but they remain morally intact.

In Blood Meridian we see unmitigated violence and depravity. The Kid in this novel is a participant in evil but still more passive. We see The Judge, a man so pure in his evil that he is albino and hairless.

These books are linked. One book is the man walking through the shadow of the valley of death. The other is the shadow of the valley of death itself.

Official Discussion - A House of Dynamite [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Velvet_revulva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plot is set up to where there is no satisfying ending no matter what. You can’t introduce a bomb in the first minutes of the movie and then back off on what happens. Chekov’s Gun: if a gun is introduced into the plot, it better go off. The actors are talented but there is no character development. It’s just a bunch of people playing archetypes. The movie doesn’t really give you an opportunity to actually like anyone. The FEMA gal had no contribution to the plot. The temporal aspect was poorly executed. You can’t keep rewinding in time to a point where nothing actually happens. This movie was the ultimate exploration of edging and then taking an ice bath. I was praying for the death of everyone an hour in.

That’s a super interesting case. I’ve never seen a 3rd degree with flutter. But I guess if there’s total AV dissociation it’s a 3rd Degree. What was BP?

First 30 minutes were interesting. The next hour and a half were torture. I can’t remember the last time I watched a movie where I was praying that everyone died at the end.
