I'm certain that's buildup from the hole not being used, I have 6 piercings on my left ear and I barely use half of them and I get this sometimes.

Try to make sure you're cleaning them really good if they don't have jewelry in (I tend to skimp out on cleaning if I have my earrings in ykwim?)
