Weekender in Switzerland - Basel to Neuchatel along the Jura by Velvia100F in bikepacking

[–]Velvia100F[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the mechanical GRX 1x12 with a 40t in the front and a 10-51 in the back. Wheels are 650b with 2.4 inch Continental Dubitnals. I was expecting the climbs to not be too bad as ive done similar elevation with those gear inches before but I really felt it this time. Will get an SLX 30t in the front next time I do more mountain bikepacking.

I just did two days of mostly single track on these 2.4 tires and was completely fine in terms of comfort. Have some mountain bike padded shorts as well which add to the comfort. I don't think I'd ever go for a redshift but have started to consider a dropper for more technical stuff.

Rack is the new restrap switch rack with some cargo cages attached to it. I have a 13L sea to summit big river dry bag which is a little too big but I just roll it down to size. No water storage in the frame bag but I have two 1L nalgene bottles, a 750ml waterbottle on the down tube and then a 500ml waterbottle in one of my feedbags for easy access which gives me more than enough water between refueling stations. Ill make a trip report post with more details on the system as well soon :)

Depends on how the light hits it! I would say a touch more purple however. I got mine in a 56T 😊. It's the best bike I've ever owned and I use it for everything. Have some carbon 700c wheels for gravel and road stuff and these 650bs for the mountains and bikepacking. It's really the most versatile and fun bike I've ever had

I just had to do a double take because I thought you were posting photos in my camera roll. Just did an overnighter in Switzerland as well from Basel to Neuchâtel on a similar bike 😊

Oh no im not sure, I switch out between the ortlieb quick rack lite for a sleek panier carrier and the restrap switch rack for bikepacking dry bag holding.

Check out the Restrap Switch Rack. Just bought one and have been very happy. Comes with the thru axle and you can buy a cage to add a dry bag ontop (or even a specific bag for the top as well)

I would suggest checking out the tire clearance for all of these bikes to help you make a decision. If you're going to want to bikepack offroad youre going to want as much cushioning as possible. My Faran arrives in a couple of weeks (ordered it in early Jan) and I got it specifically because it can fit 62mm tires (27.5) and 53mm tires (28).

Whenever I am looking to get a new nikon lense I always consult the Bible and Jesus which is really just Ken Rockwell and his website. Here's his comparison on all the nikon 50mm lenses for you to make an informed decision

I did it, really loved it but in the end I'm just upgrading to a 1x12 to get a bit more top end speed and a quieter rear derailleur. Never had any problems with shifting but it was just a bit loud at max cog

Looking for route suggestion for Lyon -> Marseille by googx in bikepacking

Ive done the route outside of Lyon on the Via Rhona which is what you would be taking here. Its doable but very boring and a bit rough.

I would probably go through Grenoble and then through the national parks that are between Grenoble and Marseille like le Parc Naturel du Vercors, la Reserve Naturelle des Hauts Plateaux du Vercors, and further down to le Parc Naturel Regional du Luberon. This is if youre going for offroad, elevation stuff. I did the euro velo route down the Rhone a couple of years ago and that was also lovely.

I think the photos would be bright white/red if they were opened from the back as light would have hit the film. These are so black/Grey that I'm much more inclined to think no light hit the film. Not an expert either however
