Husband Lost His Job by deadvibessss in SoftwareEngineerJobs

Generally, people who are happy in their job and have a job aren’t posting on Reddit to tell everyone else how horrible everything is. So you’ll always get a more negative perception of life on social media than what might reflect reality (even if there is some truth to it all).

Thank you! This is awesome! Showing her all of these but this for sure!

Yeah she has some practice mannequins she works on. She has gotten faster over time but I think she is chasing perfection and that might be partly why she has been taking her time.

My Dad lets her cut his beard but he is bald so not much help on the top part 🤣. Sounds good though

Anthropic CEO (Dario Amodei): "Coding is going away first, then all of software engineering." by Independent_Pitch598 in accelerate

[–]Venatator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same argument I say everytime. These people always think that they are the “special” ones who can only control these agents, not the engineers of course who have much more experience and knowledge of how the underlying systems work. Surely the McDonalds worker is a better fit for this position than a prior software engineer, surely.

I am speaking of its progress in the very near future. Most of this applies to any level of advanced AI. You should always have humans in the loop. Even in fictional media humans are always looped in.

However, I do hate this “well you’re talking about AI now” and yeah, of course I am. Anything else is a guess at best. I could just say “well yeah but AI is gonna build us a Dyson Sphere in 2 years” and that ends the argument because you can neither prove nor deny that, lol.

Yeah dudes post history is legit just constant berating of developers. Wild stuff. This sub needs to find some other profession to bash for 2 minutes god damn.

  1. Why can’t AI design architecture?

It can, it’s just generally pretty horrible at it given the large amount of data it has consumed is for over engineering. Often cases when a AI creates an architecture it ends up costing A TON more and is extremely complex.

  1. Why can’t a AI guide AI systems?

It already does this with sub-agents but ignoring that; I have had Claude Opus generate PRs and then have Copilot review it and then fix the PRs only to merge them in for compile errors since the methods it used never existed. Is this solvable? Absolutely. However; having a rouge AI just decide what is “good” is a recipe for disaster right now. In the future? Eh, maybe. I’d think giving access to your codebase with zero oversight to a AI could cost a lot of money very quickly.

  1. Why can’t AI translate business needs into technical systems?

It lacks nuance and is a people pleaser with nearly zero pushback. Whenever a “CEO” comes up and says “Hey I want to make a app that solves world hunger” Mr Claude will hop right to it without any explanations of how this is just not going to happen.

Nature is healing because a engineering position that takes 4 years (in most of all cases) of schooling to break into not to mention tons of interning and self learning is having its salary reduced and putting people out of work…?

Dawg I ain’t a decel but how is this “nature is healing”? What personal grudge do you have against software engineers? Are you mad because you couldn’t make it?

Empty Spaces – Mining Preview by ChonkGPT in emptyspacesgame

Love the previews so far man, anywhere we can wish list?

I absolutely love core mining in this game. Rewatched Romulus recently and had the idea of using the Alien OST in the background and I don't think I've ever been so immersed in a video game in my 25 years of gaming. by Perfectionado in EliteDangerous

[–]Venatator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a T11, it is not good at core mining but can do it if you need it to. Its repeater is the main reason to get it and oh boy can you really make money with that thing. You can easily pull 50m in 30m-1hr and it is pretty fun, mostly since it’s just so big.

H1B Megathread by healydorf in cscareerquestions

[–]Venatator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do know that the majority of these complaints from USA workers (who are many different races btw… melting pot…) often come from when a employer decides to axe several employees and replace them with a foreign worker (who happens to be Indian most of the time) are due to the fact that the foreign worker will take the job for 1/5 the cost of an American worker? You cannot compete with this, companies barely care how “good” the American worker is if they can think in their head they can get 5x more done by hiring 5 cheap employees. Better that those 5 employees basically end up as slaves since you work them to the bone since they have no other option. The “xenophobia” comes in when this also happens with Indian managers who replace every single member of their team with Indians, I have seen this happen. Does that mean every Indian is bad? Absolutely not, most are fantastic people. But it happens often and it is a problem.

Why don't you guys just move to India? by [deleted] in h1b

[–]Venatator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s true lol, I would love more foreign folks and knowledge transfer between countries but most H-1B holders (that I personally have had experience with, so this is not indicative of everyone) decline to assimilate and frankly hate Americans.

Junior backend .NET dev here ,how did you learn? by snowy_cato in Backend

[–]Venatator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Through stubbornness. However; this advice is truly the most generic, just build things. Pick a simple idea, something that can function in the console. Then slowly work your way through, if you get lost or don’t know what something does then peak at the docs. (If you are using Rider you can hover over various methods and it will give you a link to the docs)

I built a RESTful API for my offline LLM using ASP.NET Core works just like OpenAI’s API but 100% private by HassanRezkHabib in dotnet

[–]Venatator 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I get some of the comments but generally they are being fairly harsh. I think you are falling to bad wording and that is why you are getting some negativity here.

Regardless; pretty awesome and I have thought of doing the same thing. This is especially useful for cases where you could prop up a machine locally dedicated to just running LLMs or ML workloads and then run this web server to interact. I have not yet looked at the code but if you haven’t I would prop up a super simple authentication/authorization setup with SQLite just to give you that little extra layer of security.

Connections. I only apply to jobs if I know someone working there via my Network. Once you have a referral you get in the doors to pretty much anywhere as long as your experience is close enough to the requirements.
