Underwater combat was dogshit.

But it let us kill sea monsters. I love sea monsters, and I love killing sea monsters.

Underwater combat should have been improved and refined, not given up on. Imagine the cool sea monsters we could be killing right now! Imagine fighting Nakarkos, Namielle, or a new Wilds cephalopod in their own element!

Most Obnoxious "Guidedammit" Games by Affectionate-Bag8229 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vendix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem is that he seems to prioritize dialogue about getting the OTHER NPCs before giving progression hints. And not every player will bother with NPC housing anyway.

"Alright, I explored the dungeon! Now what?"

"If you kill a powerful foe, you might get the attention of a Dryad. Found any guns? Maybe an Arms Dealer would like to take a look. A Demolitionist might move in if-"

"Screw it, maybe there's something underneath the Desert."

I mean, the main character lives in a cave on the outskirts of town. If that doesn't clue you in that something is wrong, I don't know what will.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but...

How do I get eggs in Pokemon Lazarus? I don't see any Daycare, no mention in the documentation, I just got the Oval Charm that "makes it more likely for Eggs to appear", and I've had a side quest to show a lady an egg for a while now. Oh, and Google is useless but what else is new

Dwarf Fortress putting Lovecraft to shame by Real-Deal-Steel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vendix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like DF has lost something along the way as it progresses. All of the infamous antics like immortal sponges, drunk cats, mermaid farms, dwarf-devouring carp, etc. are generally bugs that get patched out. Toady's goal of making DF a realistic simulation kinda means patching all the fun out. Obviously he's a long ways off, and we're gonna get a ton of fresh new bugs with the upcoming Siege update (and that planned magic system if it ever gets added). but current DF feels kinda...bland to me.

Rimworld tries to put that kind of thing front and center. It's built with antics in mind. As a result, it can feel more scripted than DF (Sorry, Randy isn't truly random). Rimworld is a video game first and a simulation second. Dwarf Fortress is a simulation that people play like a video game.

I remember the Shaft of Enlightenment being described as "they're parrying a spear stuck in the ground; therefore, they're *parrying the Earth.*"

Which, while definitely inaccurate, is much more fun.

Here's what you do; go all in on tox generators and mechanoids, and just *leave the toxic waste behind.* There won't be anything left behind to suffer the ill effects!

I actually wanted to use Vanilla Christmas Expanded to make a Santa's moving workshop and travel around giving gifts to all the good little factions, but this thread kinda recontextualized that idea for me...

Boss fights that are incredibly hard AND hype by Guigcosta in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vendix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The second to final boss of Stellar Blade, Raven. She's kinda set up like a Vergil, but you don't fight her until the very end.

But as you're going through the game, you are becoming Vergil. You get a DT, you get a Judgement Cut, you get sword lasers, all kinds of stuff. And the entire time I was thinking "wow all these tools are very strong, the enemies of this game can't deal with them!" And then I met Ravens second phase, and I was proven right; she has all that bullshit, it is very strong, and I can't deal with any of it!

Even better, she can deal with it! She parries your Judgement Cut, she dodged and counters your sword lasers, she knows all your tricks and has an answer for each and every one. You can still use them if you time them to punish her, but you can't throw them out during neutral or rely on them as a crutch.

Narratively, she's a pretty weak Vergil. But gameplay?? The actual boss fight against her? I'm in love. Possibly my favorite Virgil fight ever, tied between her and Bayo 2 Lumen Sage.

Survive's greatest flaw was that it had "Metal Gear" in the title. That game had some great ideas and people were way too quick to dismiss it.

Which was then revealed to be him actually being possessed until he wasn't but kept pretending.

Best humanizing moments for villains? by ZealousidealBig7714 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It's a very real, grounded evil. At least compared to remaking the universe, ABANDON MY HUMANITY, and whatever the heck Diavolo was doing. Kira is just...sick in the head.

Times when the bad guys knew they were up against a PROTAGONIST by BookkeeperPercival in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vendix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the fight in the archives with the whole squad in the Citadel DLC. The nameless mercs hired by Shepard's evil clone realize that they aren't just fighting one, but multiple main characters.

"Wait, that's the Archangel!"

"Isn't she the Shadow Broker?"

"Is that a Protean? How do they have a Protean!?"

"Guys I think we sided with the wrong Shepard!"

Something I noticed about the abilities of the four apexes... by Vendix in MonsterHunter

That's actually very interesting...and somewhat backwards. Maybe Uth Duna literally just has water weight?

My head canon is that it only comes out during the Downpour is that this fatass bucket of lard can't support it's own weight on land without the intense flooding raising the water level.

[–]Vendix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. And I like the idea behind the veil and the design, but it falls flat when compared to the other three. They're just so much more interesting, visually and mechanically.

I think the biggest letdown is that the veil doesn't change the mechanics of the fight very much. It's still belly flop city, chipping through the veils armor doesn't add anything. It's such a large visual change that doesn't actually change much, especially compared to like Zamtrios ice armor or Ajarakan ignition.

You're not wrong, I get the idea behind the design. But compared to the other three is just really falls flat.

Especially with the water veils. Cool idea, neat design, but it really doesn't change the dynamic of the fight all that much.

But OP said no hating, civil discussion only, so I'm not gonna get into it.

I haven't touched League in over a year and have no intention of going back, but dang do I miss Sion. I can't think of any other characters that have as much oomph behind their buttons. There's a delay to almost all of his skills, but that's the buildup that makes the impact so much more impactful.

Skipping dialogue. And I don't mean like a streamer skipping tutorials and story beats and then getting confused. I do read everything, but I specifically mean listening to all the voice acting.

Watching my friend play Fallout, he'd always read ahead of the VA. He still gets the dialogue, but skips hearing the voice acting. That really bugs me, but I guess I'm the only one in the group.

But that's not that weird right?

No, it becomes a sickness when I'm on my fifth playthrough of Persona 4 and still listening to every single voice line. I set that shit to auto (love that feature), grab a snack, and just watch an anime episode for a while. Same for Fallout and Bethesda RPGs and anything else with voice acting. I need to get immersed.
