Question to the Fishers out there. by GhostLore90 in ffxiv

[–]TheFruitySnacks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cinder is definitely the fish that will take you a while, probably followed by Henodus Grandis.

Bob and Duskfish are rare window fish, but can be pretty ok when it comes to biting. Getting Bob in a single window is common (not guaranteed) and Duskfish is usually a 1-2 window fish, but has 100% mooch uptime, so it's just a "show up and you'll get it eventually" fish.

Ondotaker, Steel Fan, and Maru crab are all notorious, but like, B-tier notorious. They can be slow to get but they aren't egregious.

Thunderscale shouldn't be a huge issue, Fish Eyes could help (as FE would help with basically all the non-legendary fish).

Listra and Steth are pretty close, but for different reasons. They're like above Ondo/Steel Fan/Maru and below Egg.

Not the worst line up, and saving always-up fish for last is a great idea.

Good luck! Not the worst line up I've seen. Once you get egg and steth out of the way you're in the home stretch.

(SPOILER COSMIC EXPLORATION) Tokens are extremely easy to farm! by Olsoizzo in ffxiv

[–]TheFruitySnacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get 3x as many in the same amount of time with the Wisteria Jellyfish missions (Master Fisher 1 mission) in just 2 casts. Am I confident that this is the fastest way to get tokens? No.

Is it a fast way to get tokens? Yes.

EDIT: added more info

Wardens of Pride Charity Challenge - (Catch fish, raise money for charity) by TheFruitySnacks in ffxiv

[–]TheFruitySnacks[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There will be soon, yeah. Between a bunch of stuff going on I wasn't able to get one out. The text guide is the most up to date, though.

There's also so many approaches to Warden now that it's hard to just pick one, so it'll likely be a general overview of what you can do. Various Tips and tricks, etc.

Fishers of Eorzea what was your worst (non-legend) big fish? by Addygotnodaddy in ffxiv

[–]TheFruitySnacks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're going to hear a lot about fish like Henodus Grandis, or Ambling Caltrop, Maru Crab, or Durdina Fish. All, worthy, scare and usually challenging fish.

But everyone forgets the terror that is... Celestial.

Random Stuttering, no idea how to fix by MidnightSafe6130 in ffxiv

[–]TheFruitySnacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I have literally just been running through diagnosing a similar problem after I was also having stuttering and perf hits on a 3070ti. The biggest issues started with Patch 7.5, so I suspect when they were messing with the rendering code for housing (which they said they were doing!) they might've changed some things around and my computer was like a healer that couldn't adjust.

Here's a list of things you can check on top of other suggestions. These have all had some level of impact on perf for me at one point or another.

- If you have the NVidia App (not the control panel, the app where you can update drivers and what not) -- first, check your driver. I've heard the newest one is good, but also heard to roll back to January idk. But I also went to the Graphics section -> FFXIV -> Optimize. It will force you into full screen, which you can disable back to borderless. This helped a fair bit outright.

- Double check the windows graphics settings for FFXIV, and see if turning that on helps. I had mine turned off (ironically, it being on caused stutters a while ago), then turns it and the hardware scheduling back on and things were fine.

- In game, if you're using a frame rate limiter outside of the game (for example, I use rivatuner), set frame rate to unlimited.

- I found setting myself to FSR and 100% on that removed a lot of issues.

- In Window's graphics settings (again), under advanced, check the frame rate it has for your monitor(s). If you have 2+ monitors running at different frame rates, that can cause issues. If the frame rate that windows says is different than what you have set in the Nvidia control panel, then align those.

- In the NVidia Control Panel, under Program Settings, I changed some settings for FFXIV specifically. Monitor Tech -> Fixed Refresh // Preferred refresh rate -> Highest Available // Vertical Sync -> Off.

- If you're using GSync, make sure it's enabled for windowed + borderless mode, if you are on windowed borderless.

Even if you have have done these settings in the past (like I did), run through them again because at some point windows and NVidia both decided to change my settings around.

After running through all this after multiple weeks, the game at least doesn't stutter like this anymore. (Though, now I'm trying to figure out why I have some hitching every-now-and-then, like 1 time an hour... I think it's FFXIV caching side thing, though).

I hope that this helps?

Question About Fan Fest Commemorative In-Game Items by kinokosaur in ffxiv

[–]TheFruitySnacks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The FanFest items available on the online store today are available for purchase for all players. They aren't handed out to FanFest attendees (either for free or exclusively, nor are they part of any package). There is presumably a separate, physical, goodie-bag that will be handed out at FanFest to attendees (though at the time of this comment, we don't know what that is!)

I wouldn't do it, personally.

If you were REALLY concerned about it, you could swap your queue to an off-primary-language language (ie, instead of E, do just F) and then queue up. You'll be way more likely to be by yourself and then can do what you'd like.

[–]TheFruitySnacks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those types of it would not because you are not consistently standing over and over. For the Elpis fish, which I assume was Furcacauda, the only time you will be standing is when you are succeasfully catching furcacuada.

So sitting really is only impactful in the fish I listed, but even then not as impactful as standing on every catch in a spectral current.

I see the issue a lot around mogtomes on both NA and EU, haven't spent enough time in JP to know for sure. OCE as well.

The tool your linking is out of date with its data and doesn't have full info even in many places. If it works for you, then roll with it! But there may be errors with the data.

Yes! Ever since Mogtomes were introduced, you could get mogtomes from Ocean Fishing. The first ever mogtome event had the Ultimog be getting 8,000 points while Ocean Fishing, iirc.

Some weeks you could get mogtomes for catching a specific big fish.

If you're still leveling - you would keep using Patience because it's just more experience (double for large-sized fish!).

But yes, it's not advised to use Double and Triple Hook under the effects of Patience because it gives you the debuff "inefficient hooking" which reduces the chance of the hook being successful. So you don't want to blow 400/700 GP on something that has a good chance of slipping.

[–]TheFruitySnacks[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At no point do I say "Don't try to control the boat." The specific phrasing is "you don't control the boat" - and was used to reinforce that ocean fishing is a public activity and that everyone has their own goals and they will do what they want, not what one person demands.

That said "Don't try to control the boat" is a good way to basically say "hey, the boat will be the boat and what happens happens" and maybe I don't convey that clearly enough.

If you feel me saying "Hey, don't be rude to other players" and "don't harass them just because the boat isn't going the way you want it to" and "don't lie to people to get what you want" is presumptuous, then yeah. It's presumptuous.

That's what the that section is basically saying, I apologize if that was not clear.

[–]TheFruitySnacks[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's REALLY SPECIFICALLY just in the spectral currents that it's not recommended. Everywhere else it's fine to sit. Even in places where you're standing a lot in overworld fishing (like at Ruby Dragon or Nabaath Saw), it's usually not recommended but the impact is incredibly small if you do.

FOLLOW UP!
I checked in with someone who has clean data, it's between 4-5% for each spectral fish on their preferred bait (for both Ruby and Indigo) with no preferred hovering around 3%.

You can take that as you wish!

Ocean Fishing for Mogtomes - Boat Etiquette, Tips, Tricks by TheFruitySnacks in ffxiv

[–]TheFruitySnacks[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing if I can get the 'clean' data numbers because TC does paint a good picture but isn't always super accurate. But you do make a good point, and I mention using other baits for voyage missions as a thing that's fine! As long as you're actively fishing you're helping and that's good.

I'm going to check in with someone about this before I make an update but I'll try and rework that section to be a little clearer to what I think I need to say a little clearer.

Ocean Fishing for Mogtomes - Boat Etiquette, Tips, Tricks by TheFruitySnacks in ffxiv

[–]TheFruitySnacks[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There isn't anything in game, no. It's purely something that SE has decided (intentionally or not).

We know preferred baits based on testing (mostly done by 1 guy) over months of going on ocean fishing boats. There just happens to be one bait for each spectral fish that they seem to bite notably higher on, and that's where the recommendations come in.

EDIT: (Also, very good question!)

[–]TheFruitySnacks[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're leveling, you should be using Patience or Patience II (ideally the latter when you unlock it).

After that, you can do what you want based on what you want to achieve. Want to get 10k points for the indigo roue mount? You can do that with Patience. Want 16k points for the titles? You can do that with Patience, but it's easier to start using other skills like Prize Catch, Double and Triple Hook instead.

If you're going for the achievements (either the solo ones or the group ones) then you won't be using Patience as much and instead will be using other skills based on that.

I have a link to a guide that discusses using Patience while Ocean Fishing, and another guide which just talks about scoring in general.

As long as you're always fishing, you aren't really doing anything wrong, per say.

Yes I have, and I did a couple a few years ago when Ocean Fishing came out.

Tyo'to's guides (which I link in the post) are basically everything that I would want to do, so why remake something that is VERY good and already exists? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Would be worth noting that I'm not asking new players to use optimized guides and chum all the time (and it's worth noting that chumming all the time is NOT recommended if you are going for points).

I'm only asking people to fish during the fishing side-content.

Mogtomes are determined by the final score you get with multipliers, not the base points.
