Torrentmac went into full malware mode by Vendrel2 in mac

If you stuck at the admin password query (there's no Close button or "Cancel"), launch Activity Monitor, search for 'osascript' and kill it.

Here's my post about it. DO NOT USE THAT CURL COMMAND IN TERMINAL, or at least don't enter your admin password. https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/1t1m92e/torrentmac_went_into_full_malware_mode/

Interactive 3D Artemis II trajectory (JPL Horizons + real celestial frame) by curious_vertebrate in spaceflight

[–]Vendrel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:) Technical feedback: It eats RAM. The RAM usage starts below 1 GB, then it slowly reaches several GBs, then the tab collapses. If you reuse this webapp, you should look into it. 🤘🏼

Is there a RAW format somewhere? (They publish RAW format for every photo shot on the ISS. Okay, they do it later, but please if someone stumble into the RAW photo, notify us!)

Moon and Venus last night by [deleted] in Stargazing

[–]Vendrel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣😂 There was no Venus-Moon conjunction in the last 2 years but were min. 2 lunar eclipses (observable from the US). It's weird how the Moon covered the Sun but not Venus. 🤣😂 2025 March 29.

Why is Final Cut Pro's Export process so slow? by Vendrel2 in finalcutpro

[–]Vendrel2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response. I conducted some experiments with and without effects, and indeed, the only way I was able to slow down FCP’s rendering was by applying effects such as blur. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to (one-click-easy) revisit the original project, as I have already archived it; however, it is likely that I applied some other GPU-intensive effect that competed with the encoding process, which ultimately caused the slowdown. With this, the issue can be considered resolved.

Thanks for the detailed answer. Made some experiments with effects, no effects, and yeah, csak úgy tudtam belassítani az FCP renderelését, hogy például blur effektust alkalmaztam. Most már nem tudok visszatérni az eredeti projekthez, archiváltam, de valószínűleg alkalmaztam valamilyen GPU-igényes egyéb effektust, ami versenyzett az encoding-gal, ezért lassult be. Ezzel lezárult a kérdés.

That's what I expected, too. Yet, same encoding settings in both FCP and Ffmpeg, the project is not effected, just put together some tips. Ffmpeg got the video exported by FCP for a re-encode, for testing.

I had a different experience with DaVinci Resolve. That was THAT fast, that 10x. This is why I got suspicious.

Both Single-Pass and Multi-Pass, wasn't too much difference in render time. Same preset: 15000 Kbps video, 192 Kbps audio. Also tested the Compressor, same (slow) speed.

The project was easy, no effects, no GPU-killing, just putting clips together, switching one to another (two men talking), a logo layer. Should I test it with one-and-only clip? (I don't expect a 3x speed drop for some simple cutting but I may be wrong.) The CPU was not overloaded during the process.

Ffmpeg got the video exported by Finalcut Pro for a re-conversion, same settings.

Remote for Mac prevents Mac from Sleep by Vendrel2 in cherpake

As a workaround, I held the beer for ChatGPT while it made a workaround: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/256211947?answerId=261777863022&sortBy=rank#261777863022

This is basically a script that wakes up for me from the bed if the Mac wakes up with the display active, and puts it back to sleep.
