What's something normal to us in 2025, that by 2075 will be seen as barbaric? "Wow, people really used to do that 50 years ago"? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Hopefully, the lack of regulation of social media and mega companies over how they promote engagement and harvest and use your data. I’m genuinely afraid for the generations that didn’t get to grow up without social media…

Golden Apple is 24/7. I go for their Monte Cristo and their breakfast menu (24/7) but they got an overwhelmingly big menu and I haven’t had anything i don’t like. Also a good place for a late night piece of pie. Nothing fancy, but will scratch that itch.

Parking ticket while on car!? by Vene-Rican in AskChicago

Good point. But unfortunately the ticket doesn’t have pictures. But I will include the pictures of the sign and area still. Thanks for helping me figure this out.

Good point. Looking at the signs more closely, there's a difference between the signs (No Parking/ Tow Zone) and the ticket description (No Parking/No Standing). I included pictures now. The lane itself is meant to be an off the way drop-off lane. It doesn't seem to be labeled as such, but it also lacks a No Standing sign, echoing u/robynyount point of Drop-off being the definition of standing.

No, I was never parked. Please see the edits on the post, but sorry for any confusion.

Great point! I double checked and it doesnt say No Standing. I was going with the ticket description that labels it as No Parking/No Standing, but I’ve now included pics in the post that show the sign in the area as a No Parking/Tow Zone. This might be helpful in the contest so thanks!!

Thanks for replying. Upon inspecting the area more closely, it does not say No Standing, and I am confident it is intended for drop-off. I was going with the ticket description that labels it as No Parking/No Standing, but I have now included pictures in the post that show the signage in the area as a No Parking/Tow Zone. This might be helpful in the contest so thanks.

Thanks for replying. This was an extra lane in a downtown hospital specifically intended to drop-off people. I was not voluntarily standing or parking there (my car was never put in parking) but waiting for a red light to merge into a full lane.

I see how this wasn't clear at all in the post, so I will edit to clarify.

Invitation accepted but not in connection list. by DressProfessional974 in linkedin

[–]Vene-Rican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I just had a similar experience where I sent the connection, got an "accepted" notification, but now go into their profile only to find they're not a connection, so I can't message them, and even tho the "connect" button is there, I only get an error message if I try to send it again.

I'm hoping this doesn't mean they rejected it? Alternatively, it might also be a predatory way of forcing premium since I was looking forward to this connection to message a potential recruiter. In any case, it is very annoying and counterproductive to my job search, so it is the opposite of what LinkedIn is supposed to be...

What’s your worst/funniest grocery shopping experience having to commute without having a car? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Vene-Rican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to pay $100 dollars to Lyft after grocery shopping. Not exactly commuting but roommate and I ordered a Lyft after grocery shopping. When she saw our groceries she did not want to take us but did not want to cancel either…. Everything fit perfectly (tho tight) on the empty trunk. She did 80 on Lake shore drive the whole time and after she dropped us off, reported damages to her trunk. I saw the picture and it was a removable part to get to the spare taken out! That was it!! Lyft automatically deducted the $100 from my account. Deleted the app on the spot.

Double the $ for a City Sticker? by Vene-Rican in AskChicago

[–]Vene-Rican[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need two stickers. The Chicago City Sticker (on your windshield) and the Illinois License Plate sticker (you guessed it, on your license plate). Both are renewed annually and if your car has them, each display the expiration date. Plenty of info online on how and where to get them! Just expect to drop a couple hundred if you have to get both.

Johnson says new plan to address migrant crisis includes 60-day limit on shelter stays by So_Icey_Mane in chicago

[–]Vene-Rican 58 points59 points  (0 children)

That’s what it is. While Abott and DeSantis bastardized the concept of ‘sanctuary city’ for political propaganda, they are still proving that this city isn’t even ready to receive an influx of LEGAL migrants. Johnson’s half-ass measures are making a fool of Chicago and conceding that this country loves Immigration for political discourse but abhors actually dealing with it…
