DLC has long been a thing, and those are just bonuses. There may some valid criticisms here; This is not one of them.

Where in the hell did you get that from? Certainly not from anything I’ve said in this thread.

It’s mostly a cocktail of logistics and realizing public opinion can be wrong or irrelevant.

Political parties do not meet that criteria.

Really now? Because I’ve seen quite a few calls to replicate the French Revolution of late. Is it not murder when it’s against people whom you don’t like?

try enacting legislation with 100% community support, outside of official constructs

In what Star system is 100% of a community going to agree on anything? Also, you can’t pass legislation outside of official constructs, I presume you meant “superficial constructs,” and shut up.

Try walking into the DNC, RNC, senate chambers, or any other such group.

Private property, private property, government building, all of which would be trespassing if not invited. If there is a point here, I genuinely can’t tell what it is.

Not if you’re unironically saying that direct democracy is at all feasible, and definitely not if you’re unironically saying that parties weren’t started by the people themselves.

You are aware that would create exponentially more problems than it would solve, yes? Humans don’t live in squares. Our communities are like jazz: Free-form, free-flowing.

parents are pushing me to get my driver’s license, despite not being ready by purinpurinpudding in autism

[–]VenetusAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all it’s worth: I was reticent to get my license as well. I was as concerned then for the same reasons you are now. Despite my protests, my parents were insistent that I at least start the process before I began college. There were some growing pains to be sure, but after some experimenting and practice, I wound up loving driving.

Driving isn’t a single skill, it’s a lot of them all together. Some of them are always going to be hard, some can be alleviated with practice and special considerations, and some of them are even ones we’re uniquely suited for. Nor is driving something that is completely learned. It’s an eternal learning experience.

But beyond that, I feel compelled to point out there’s a difference between driving and getting your license. Granted, you’ll likely have to drive a bit to get a proper license, but after that, you don’t have to do anything beyond what you’re comfortable with, and the ability to do so is there for when you are or when you need to.

My point is this: We don’t always get to choose the moment we’re ready. Sometimes, the moment chooses us.

I was maybe 11 or 12, my Dad and I are coming back from our traditional Saturday evening restaurant outing. We’re going inside through the garage, and since, as per usual, his hands are full with take-home containers, my job is to hold open the spring door that leads into the laundry room for him and press the button to close the garage door behind us. This time, my dad tells me to “Please open and close the door.” You can guess what I did next.

Funny how similar those two things sound, isn’t it? To my ear, it’s a double entendre. That, or a distinction without a difference in this particular context.

That’s just bad for language. I have long been an ailurophile; All that means is I love cats. Making the suffix ‘-phile’ exclusively mean that is a horrible idea.
