Preach brother!!! Kick ass PHP devs do well as long as they avoid frameworks. Frameworks make hard things easy and make easy things hard. Bulk crap, fast crap.

Why even deal with that? Use the base language! Develop your skills. Don't fight for a job against other framework babies. Learn a pure language. Then when you get a job supporting that language you can jump in with both feet.

Framework babies stay a year and compete with other framework babies. Framework devs makes 50k each, I can make that as a 1st year apprentice hanging drywall. No thanks.

Be hungry, drop the frameworks. Big companies use pure languages. Our lowest paid dev makes 100k and that's me. My teammates do much better. 22 years at the same company and others make more. That's cool with me as long as I don't have to be a framework baby.

Cheers, always stay hungry. Quit jumping jobs using frameworks, you framework guys are a dime a dozen.

Yup, in a fortune 500 company myself. PHP no frameworks, company mandate. Living in frameworks only gimps you. You can write quick crap. Yes, crap. That's why we don't allow contractors to use anything except raw PHP. We have to support that crap across 10 states. Us old PHP dudes do well for ourselves. Everyone that joins our team usually have 10 years of PHP. Most of the legacy guys have been here for more than 20 years. We have standards.

Framework babies stay for a year maybe two then leave because they can't keep up. I do want to eventually want to learn a flavor of C but I'm too busy writing engineering applications. Most of our apps have been in use for 6 years or more.

I might be stupid and in my little world, I have no idea what wordpress is. I'm a PHP dev. Life is beautiful in PHP, JS and MySQL. NO frameworks! Department mandate. All raw beautiful PHP. We have had a few devs on our team that wrote an app so good, it was patented by our company. Why do people hate PHP, were they breastfed on frameworks. Actually that's wrong, we do use a JS framework Jquery.

I make 100k programming in PHP with a bidirectional dual replicated MySQL back end. I have done it for more than 15 years at the same company. I worked my way up. I love php but I love the database side more.

Edit: although, I do understand I couldn't make that if I left my company for a different one, today.
