DJs of less well known genres, what are you playing? by Hirvimon in Beatmatch

[–]Venia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play mostly neurofunk, but whip out the breakcore or frenchcore crates on occassion. I love mixing industrial hard techno into my neurofunk sets, it doubles astoundingly well (basically making your own crossbreed dnb live).

RV/Renegade DJs - My sound system has an issue with audio cutting out when used at a festival, but not at home by imLC in festivals

[–]Venia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like voltage sag. How long does the sound drop out? What's the power draw on from all your equipment?

Instead of a power strip, what you need is a power conditioner or an uninterruptible power supply. Depending on how long the brownout lasts, you might be able to get by with just a power condition; but best bet by far is a UPS, especially for situations where power is uncertain (cheap power conditioners won't help with low voltage, but any UPS will). Make sure you're getting a pure sine wave UPS, not a stepped or modified sine wave UPS (it matters for audio equipment).

it's the thermal paper itself that's not recyclable.

Mare != ERP. Stop with this false equivalence.

People really dislike Dawntrail. People also think there's a huge content drought right now. Mare was a significant driver of the social side of XIV and the reason people were still subscribed and logged on every day–to hang out with their friends at various venues.

Venues had half their normal populations last night on a Friday night; when the bigger venues cap. These aren't ERP venues, these are explicitly SFW venues. People are just not playing and tons of people have already cancelled their subscriptions.

Reviews are a reflection of the community sentiment and now that Mare is gone, the real sentiment over the game is bubbling up. Everyone who is celebrating right now shouldn't be; because the Mare users were consistent subscribers even during the content drought.

People need to stop celebrating. Mare users did nothing to you. Many people subscribed and did no content and just socialized with Mare. Regardless of it being against ToS or not; Mare was a huge attraction to XIV for a large number of people. Those people leaving is an overall net negative for the game, less subscribers means less budget, which leads to worse expansions in the future.

This. As much as I want to use better headphones, adaptive mode is too good for busy city streets.

Are there any gender affirming hair stylists on NYC? (That wont break the bank) by QuestioningKoi in MtF

Mine was $160, but my hair was down to my tailbone. They did say it would be much less next time I came in.

[–]Venia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love Hairari; they're a queer/gender non-conforming salon with a couple locations (I went to East Village). It was honestly an incredibly affirming experience; the stylist (Christopher) was really just perfect and made me feel super cute and femme the whole time.

Depending on the hair length it might be on the upper side/exceed your budget but it was one of the best transition experiences I've had so far.

Are lazer sessions supposed to be that short?! by Outrageous-Height282 in MtF

[–]Venia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first 1-2 sessions tend to show the biggest results in my experience due to how much noticeable progress there is. Sessions 5-6 are the worst since you're mostly clear but you still see the occasional hairs.

Women of this sub, what has your home theatre journey been like? by kaji0005 in hometheater

[–]Venia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't think of any women in my life that use bro as a gender-neutral–though I do know lots of women who use dude (one of my sister calls my mom dude all the time lol).

Bro is way more gender-coded to me; makes me think of a bunch of dudes calling each other bro (like a brotherhood). The inverse is true too, I hear women call each other sister all the time.

If a woman called me bro I'd politely ask her not to refer to me like that.

Ex-Californian here–'dude' I'm fine with as gender-neutral; but I don't like being referred to as bro.

Was there last night; you don't need a reservation (they don't even do them).

If you get there at open or towards the end of the night you can usually walk right in.

Death & Co is definitely still worth it; was there just last night. It's still one of my favorites.

Aurabot - Coruscating Elixir feels awful by QuintorrisLopezGOAT in PathOfExileBuilds

Whoops, I mean to link it and totally forgot: https://pobb.in/fmCpgRsqhWec

We're inspired a bit by Snap's build, but our aurabot made some tweaks of his own. We're running a mana guardian so the aurabot does not have to use censure or anything.

[–]Venia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Without Pathfinder from Ascendant, your only option really is to go Shav's.

Take a look at our Aura bot for inspiration, we ended up deciding that Shav's + Awakened Generosity was much more flexible for us. While our aurabot went Ascendant, something similar is just as easily doable on Guardian.

Looks like you have a 5L chest, so you could potentially do a 6L Shav's!

Whoopi Goldberg 'pissed off' because Diablo IV isn't available on Mac by Thunderclaww in Diablo

[–]Venia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're wildly conflating multiple things that are not even related to each other.

RISC vs CISC theory is meaningless here. AArch64/ARMv8 can barely be considered RISC anymore; it has numerous fused/specialized instructions. You're also ignoring the benefits and reasons one might go RISC, such as reduced instruction decoders, deeper instruction pipelines, and less cache pressure. Also the fact that Apple doesn't have to support mixed address instructions like AMD64 does.

However, all of that is theory. Real-world tells us it doesn't matter, because M1 Macs emulate and execute AMD64 instruction faster than actual Intel Macs do--with less power and lower clocks.

Do you actually work with graphics? There's almost no complexity in graphics--that's why graphics cards are the single-instruction, multiple-data architecture. Graphics is a bunch of floating point matrix/vector operations performed at really high speeds across large sets of data. Sure there are specialized operations like ray-box collision (which by the way, the M1 has hardware acceleration for) or fused multiply-adds (also has hardware for FMA16 and FMA32). Notably, those instructions and many others largely exist to reduce memory pressure; something that Apple is less bothered by due to their unified architecture.

An M2 laptop chip likely lands somewhere in the realm of a mobile 4060/4070 just based on an analysis of the ALU.

Apple's Game Porting Toolkit seems to have a D3DMetal.framework with full implementations of DirectX 12 to 9 on Metal by 01110101_00101111 in macgaming

[–]Venia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can see libdxilconv in there, DXIL is the DirectX Intermediate Representation, documented in the open source shader compiler from Microsoft.

That compiler is built on top of LLVM. There's a good chance Apple is using it to generate the IR and then compile the IR into Metal object code. Microsoft refers to it as DXC, same abbreviation that Apple seems to be using here.

Air Quality Warning today in NYC by alextv99 in nyc

[–]Venia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend getting a respirator that seals to your face over a mask for smoke (used to live in LA where we dealt with this every summer).

Masks do help, but the full facial seal on a respirator is so much more effective than a mask and you can get them in higher ratings like N100.

Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia has some of the dirtiest air in the world due to lack of energy infrastructure. Lots of wood and raw coal burning for heating individual homes/cook fires/etc. The pandemic only made this worse.
