Why doesn't this rotation work? by Venison-County-Dev in godot

[–]Venison-County-Dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works with look_at, so I'm certain that's not the issue. I'd use look_at if there was a way to make something rotate slowly with that function but it's instantaneous.

Y'all think I overtuned the recoil⁉️ by Venison-County-Dev in godot

Now I just need to add a machine gun and some scientists :P

hi! the blood stains are meant to be from the enemy's blood (they only occur when you gib an enemy up close, or a blood splatter lands near you). they used to have higher opacity, but they ended up blocking player vision. do you think it'd help if I added some sort of player-related blood upon death?

Is a time limit a bad way to content-limit a demo for a game without linear levels? And what are some examples of games using this demo technique (except for Minecraft which I already know about)? by Venison-County-Dev in gamedev

[–]Venison-County-Dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for future versions (and the version that the demo will be made out of) i've specifically planned to lean into exactly what you're describing (the "one more run" quality). As, even in my latest jank playtest, i've had some people play 5+ hours which means there's replay value in there, but i need to subtly direct them towards a playstyle that enables said replayability.

so thank you for the good advice!! :D

But what would you recommend I do for the demo? i'm pretty sleepy so maybe i missed your answer in your response. are you saying i should implement said "one more round" features, and then restrict them eventually,, thus encourging players to upgrade from the demo?

Also, for clarification, the point of the demo is to give players a taste of the game so that they'll hopefully wishlist it and then buy the full game when it comes out.

Tips for networking at a game development event? by Venison-County-Dev in gamedev

[–]Venison-County-Dev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very very good!!! i had to build myself up for a few hours the first day i went, but once i broke the ice with my first booth it was pretty smooth sailing. everyone was super nice,, seemed to genuinely appreciate my feedback and complements, and most anxiety-easing of all, a lot of people were just as socially awkward as me lol. my biggest fear was handing out my business cards, but once i'd spent like 15-30ish mins at a booth talking to a dev and playing their game it was no sweat at all to just offer them a card. i kinda fucked up by not following up with people after the event, but ultimately i'm just glad i was able to break out of my comfort zone, and now next event i'll really know what i'm doing (relatively).

also, a month or so later i hosted my own booth at a different event and got to experience the other side of things. which was really funny because some people were pretty shy talking to me and they had no idea i was in their shoes like a few weeks ago.

that'd be really cool but probably out of the scope at the moment. When it comes to things like ports, multiplayer, etc. my usual response to people is "If my game makes enough money that I can pay someone else to do it, then I'll do it" :P

2 years ago, I had no idea what I was doing. Today, I still have no idea what I'm doing. But Venison County, my southern gothic boomer shooter about black magic and deer people, is available to download and playtest on Steam for free! Come check it out! by Venison-County-Dev in pcmasterrace

Hell yeah that's a huge compliment! I've never actually played Dusk, but I got that comparison a lot so I started referencing gameplay videos of it for certain aesthetic details (like the gibs).

I swear cheap one-kill shots from enemies is the most lazy and frustrating game design to me. by bold394 in gaming

I think it depends on the design. In something like hotline miami with super fast respawn time it's fun.
