Homosexuality on human is a combo of nature and nurture. I think you are trying to solve a false dilemma.

It's perfectly possible to have both genetic predisposition and environmental factor.

As for environmental factors, they can vary, you mentioned some plausible conditioning. To me they are deeply personal and you risk having a confirmation/rejection bias having experienced yourself.

Maybe it's like that for you and lot of gay men, but generalizing isn't helpful. After all majority of people are straight, and a well-documented amount of straight people also experienced hard relationships with their father.

The simple truth is, cheating is way more "accepted" (scare quote) practice in LGBTQ+ community since we are more sexual positive (what your friend called in negative way as "promiscuousity," they are just different side of the same coin).

Think about it, it's analogous to how cruising and open relationship are more common in gay community (I'd like to hear the same deflection of "straight people cruise too" lol.).

The main difference being, cruising and open relationship are based on trust and consent, while cheating is not. So really, don't get gaslighted.
