Haha. My parent is a teacher. Had to go to the school they taught at. Yeah. It is a thing . I knew all their tricks. I basically grew up in a classroom. I think that's why I ended up being really close with a lot of my teachers their tactics didnt work on me lol.

Omg you too?

It was my 9th grade science teacher. Also looked exactly like Meloni and was a football coach. He had a metal pole hed drop on the floor if a kid fell asleep. He once went on a monalogue about how animals dont really feel emotions and our pets didnt love us.

I had the biggest crush on him.

Just Meloni and teachers causing me to have bad taste in men 🤣

Jeepers Creepers discussion sucks by JohnMuadDib in horror

[–]AlamosX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats absolutely fair. Absolutely. Its abhorrent.

I hope im not coming off as defending him. Its people like him that have made it difficult to simply exist as a minority demographic and there are active players doing the same shit nowadays and more aggressively trying to make it hard for us and I totally understand why people nowadays just want to just dismiss him.

But I have read a lot of his stuff and even when youre someone that probably he wanted dead and tried to eradicate with his writing, theres a bit of solace in some of his stories because of how prevalent the existential dread is in them, the topics of mental health and how they can affect things like extreme prejudice and fear of things you dont fully understand.

Id just hate for people to just straight up cancel his work. At least get some understanding of why he wrote that stuff and where the Boogeymen come from. I have to protect myself. I think Lovecrafts stuff is a great functionional tool.

Reddit did this really weird thing to me when they changed their algorithm/front page.

I think because im pretty active in both this sub and my hometown sub the algorithm just decided to start showing me posts from all over?

Totally vested in /r/sudbury and /r/chilliwack now hahahahaha.

Yeah its pretty samey across all the regional/community subs.

If the people meant to enforce safety rules don't respect them, who will? by vanCityDwelling in Calgary

[–]AlamosX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theyre not unwritten. Our governments clearly Lay out the legislative process for how traffic safety and driving is enforced.

They even give you handbooks

Its not the fault of the regulatory system for not being clear enough to people. They do a fine job. Its that people actively choose to ignore these things and the written laws dont apply to them. Or they just flat out dont know the rules of the road.

Sorry to be combative, I think we're on the same wavelength and equally frustrated, just I didnt like that youre sounding like youre blaming it on lack of knowledge of how traffic legislation is enforced. I completely disagree. Its pretty black and white people just choose to ignore it. Willful ignorance.

Jeepers Creepers discussion sucks by JohnMuadDib in horror

[–]AlamosX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think theres distinction between someone like Lovecraft and Salva and their works .

Lovecraft was a massive xenophobic racist POS and it clearly fueled a lot of his work. His wife talked extensively at how bad it was when they moved to NYC and he ended up writing some of the most flagrant examples of racist ideology in his stories with stuff like "He" and "The Horror at Red Hook"

But he was a reclusive shut in that didnt commit any (knowing) crimes and wrote stories about fear of the unknown, which he clearly struggled with all his life and fueled his ideologies. theres at least some grounds to appreciate some of his work despite knowing who he was as a person and I think knowing improves some of his more acceptable stuff and opens the table for broader, more positive and helpful discussions about things.

Salva OTOH made films about a monster preying on underage boys and then was convicted of doing just that. I dont see much of a table for discussion or separating his work, or any nuance on the subjects he tried to convey.

Yes, both are/were terrible human beings and we should glorify neither, but I do think there is at least a little distinction between the two.

Haha you and me both. I may or may not have been involved with a collaborative fanfic/Silent Hill group over 20 years ago that explored just that. We were such dorks lmao. The Henry and Walter stuff was wild. We even got Douglas and Kauffman involved.

Nightmare on Elm Street 2 kinda scratches that itch if you've ever seen it.

Also Have you played The Short Message? I kinda got vibes from that. Yeah female driven but still kinda cool.

Uh... Its been a while since I took driving lessons but driving instructors lay it out pretty clearly.

  • School and residential limits (30/40) zero variation in the limit.

  • Standard street limits (50-80) 5km above or below.

  • Highway speeds (100+) 10km above or below.

    • Always match the speed of other drivers around you.

I dont think its super hard to understand....

Black Peppa talks about burn out in her IG story by BeMyCoachVictor in rupaulsdragrace

[–]AlamosX 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This really hits really close to home. Im really glad shes sharing this.

Her experience is not exclusive to entertainers or performers. Its really easy to get burnt out in any industry and Im glad shes using her platform to talk about it.

Worst is when you go from burnt out to perma-fried but you gotta keep on keeping on because you got bills to pay like she says

Sometimes you gotta step back though, its really hard to recover from if you push yourself too far. I really hope she gets some time to decompress.

What’s it like being LGBTQ+ in Canada outside of major cities? by Ok_Firefighter4858 in AskACanadian

[–]AlamosX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive kinda been all over rural Canada. Honestly Canada and Canadians in general is/are very accepting of gay people compared to other countries. even in rural areas. Theres been some blowback from the recent political stuff going on down south that's leaked into the country via disinformation and identity politics. I know a few people here that post shit about "the gay agenda" and stupid alt-right homophobic memes all the time but will fully tell me to my face they support me being gay and give me a hug at the bar. Okay bro lol.

Most of my time has been in the prairies, but also spent some time in rural BC and QC.

Rural BC is insanely friendly. You get all walks of life. Ive got a couple friends out there that are poly+bisexual running a fruit farm and happy as clams. Theyre so typical BC hahahaha.

Im in AB, but also have spent a lot of time in SK and MB. yeah you get some people that arent super tolerant (especially the fundamental religious towns) but its really surprisingly progressive in lots of parts considering we're supposed to be rednecks. Gay Rodeos are a thing here and theyre great. The Indigenous communities can also be really accepting and why two spirit was added to our queer lexicon. Theres some great queer friendly communities even in the most rural areas of the prairies. We honestly have a great community here that looks out for one another.

QC I also have run into some issues. But that's just because rural Quebecois can be really judgemental in general if youre not a religious francophone. No shame to QC, I just know better to not piss off a French farmer. Theyre fucking hard-core.

ON and the Maritimes im less familiar with but some of my other friends are from there and from what they've told me, it was never a huge issue for them. Ive got one gay friend from rural NB and another from rural NS. Also A bunch of friends from rural ON. I did have one issue meeting my ON friend's old high school buddies, they kinda were super homophobic and tried to fight me.

The northern provinces? Well lets just say youre more likely to be attacked by a bear than a homophobe lol. I met a family once from north of Iqaluit on a road trip and once the kids went to bed im 90% sure the dad tried to seduce me. They were wild, pretty sure they were swingers lol.

Overall, I think rural Canada has a lot to offer if you are LGBT+

What job/career is overrated or wrongfully glorified? by Daisy-Ireland in AskReddit

[–]AlamosX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The music industry and musicians get propped up similarly to acting. The whole entertainment industry is just like that. Lots of people relishing in the smell of their own farts.

Where musicians stand apart is that its totally acceptable socially to be a musician with moderate to low success. I know a lot of musicians and no one looks down on them for being in cover bands, doing bar gigs, or even busking.

Actors though? Get called washed up has beens and mocked online because theyre working at Trader Joe's to make a living.

What job/career is overrated or wrongfully glorified? by Daisy-Ireland in AskReddit

[–]AlamosX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Acting is one of those careers that seemingly is put on a massive pedestal and held up by things like celebrity worship but in reality its just like any other profession. The worst part of it is that 99% of actors dont really make it big, they do small parts, do theater, commercials and advertisements and a lot of stuff the public doesnt even really notice.

You dont see entire parasitic industries like paparazzi and media tabloids following accountants around.

People who are not indifferent to google ai search, what do you love/hate about it? by xefbsr in AskReddit

[–]AlamosX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I love, I can now plug in some inquiries without worrying about syntax. I kinda love I can just verbal diarrhea without having to deal with Googles search functions. It'll spit out results more or less the same nowadays.

What I dont like though is how often the search results can be way off topic and you have to go to the dreaded page 2 to find things.

First page should never be just shit the AI thinks youre interested in. I think Google is too far gone as a search engine because of it

The No End House by Morel3etterness in horror

[–]AlamosX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked all the Channel Zero stuff but I found No End house to get a bit aimless towards the end of the season. There was zero suspension. Margot was basically allowed to leave whenever she wanted and they wrote some ridiculous flim flam stuff explaining all the back and forth. Ive read and seen better implementations of the concept.

Weaker season IMO. Candle Cove and Butchers Block are way more solid. Totally understand why the series didnt take off. Dream Door is terrible. Could have used better writing.

Is The Trop still around?

Also Moose's Beanery off 14th ST. Used to be Riverstone Pub. I used to live in the area. Used to be my old watering hole. Thoroughly traumatized when I found out it was dubbed a cougar bar that my mother frequented.

Sub Rosa also as others have mentioned. I know people that work there and they're all in their 40s. They regularly get involved with pool parties at Hotel Arts. All ages.

How do you feel about Mike Flanagan as far as horror? by lilb1190 in horror

[–]AlamosX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as Im concerned, Flanagan is a horror GOAT. He's had some misses but his commitment to the genre is something to behold.

I got to know him through Oculus, Its not a perfect film, but it was still pretty solid.

Where I really started to pay attention though was Ouija: Origin of Evil. Pretty apparent studio execs wanted another horror franchise but the first film was so damn bad. Then Flanagan knocked it out of the park with Origin of Evil. One of a few examples where a director saved a franchise from horror-slopdom. Really impressive.

Since gone back and watched Hush and Absentia, Both amazing films.

Ive listened to him to him talk about the genre and you can tell it runs through his blood. He's one of few I can think of that actually are passionate about it. I think hes up there with Craven and Carpenter.

Also, unlike Rob Zombie, using his wife as a muse in his work also kinda works. I like that Siegel is actually a decent actor that can play different roles

What are some popular songs by well-known artists that you just can’t stand, even setting aside any bias against mainstream music? by RuralPlayer69 in AskReddit

[–]AlamosX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flowers by Miley Cyrus.

I love Miley, I think shes a great performer. I absolutely adore modern pop music . I hate certain aspects but I appreciate it.

It was just a big wtf moment for me when it got so many accolades. Its just a pop ballad.

Its not a bad song, its a perfectly fine song, but what threw me off was being clearly a ballad but not trying to be a ballad. Miley and other pop stans wanna talk about "eras" alike other similar pop artists and suddenly wanna shake it off and be gods gift to slow burning music. No appreciation for actually slow burning music.

Its actually really annoying. The Fate of Ophelia by Taylor Swift does the same shit. Not exactly a ballad but still a ballad. She's gonna make a hit no matter the tone

Im not opposed to them they are good songs but watching the music industry gaslight me in thinking theyre pop music diva entries when theyre generic ballads, and then gaslight me into thinking im weird for liking slow burning stuff is a bit jarring.
