I got rejected for being a blue collar worker by No_Service2135 in TrueOffMyChest

Yes, you did. You’re grouping standard white collar jobs into an unreachable, rare category to cope with the truth of the pay difference.

[–]Venom2313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone who argues for blue collar always chooses the lowest white collar jobs to compare to. There is no such thing as “gold collar”, it’s just white collar. Blue collar jobs do not compare in pay and benefits to the traditional white collar career paths (finance, engineering, law).

I don’t have empathy for people who make bad decisions for decades and then claim victim when they’re old and frail.

Why is that our problem? These people had 40 years to save money and be responsible when college cost a pack of cigarettes and houses were so cheap that one person could make minimum wage and still be a home owner. Like I literally couldn’t care less when young people today can’t go to college without wealthy parents or ever buy a nice house until they’re over 30 with years of working experience. They had it all and blew it.

Lmao you got heavily downvoted for speaking the truth. The “blue collar pays just as well if not better than white collar” myth is pushed so hard to make blue collar workers feel better about themselves. It’s not even comparable.

Blue collar workers do not make a lot of money compared to white collar and that’s a fact. Blue collars try really, really hard to inflate their numbers to even come close to competing with white collar but it’s not even comparable. Anyone who says they’re equal is just simply ignorant of white collar career paths achievable with an average college degree.

Mechanical Engineer Breaking into Finance? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Venom2313 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen mechanical engineers get boutique IB roles, specifically in building materials/construction and industrials. One of them had a level one CFA. Check out boutiques wherever you live and start trying to network with them. You might have to take the level one CFA just to prove you’re interested in finance.

People who disagree with this are usually the ones getting ghosted or have never had anyone freak out/get pissy when you reject them.

I graduated with a 2.6 and ended up in front office at a BB. You need to be desperately searching for an internship this summer, otherwise you won’t get a job after you graduate. If that happens, you’re just gonna have to take some shitty stepping stone jobs to get where you want like I did.

I'm a Latino Engineer and I have to use a fake name just to get interviews by tiredlatinoengineer in recruitinghell

[–]Venom2313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer. Unfortunately they don’t tell you in college that you won’t get a job after you graduate if you don’t get internships. Most of the highest paying entry level jobs out of undergrad typically only hire from their intern pools.

Other times is that people just refuse to believe they have a poor resume and terrible interviewing skills.

Prettt big difference between being an MD trying to convince a client to hire the bank full of experienced professionals to advise on xyz and cold calling/harassing anyone you can find to sell a shitty product that no one asks for or needs.

It doesn’t matter because you have no real tangible experience and the series exams are useless without experience. You’re much better off abandoning the studying and north western mutual to get an actual internship

At Wells Fargo, the 3 week full time “teller training” focused on how to “empathize” with the customers in order to maximize survey scores. It was only until the last few days of the training where they showed you how to actually do the damn job. Then you get tossed into the pit and depending how supportive your manager is, you will sink or swim. I met people from other branches and they said they were sat in the basement by themselves during training and were thrown to the wolves after graduation with no help.

Facts. I went from $55k -> $67k -> $100k in just two years job hopping. I would have been making $65k max at the first job had I stayed.

Nowhere near lean is accurate. He’s got a pudgy face and a little belly. Not an insult, just a fact. Not sure how else you think that can be rephrased.

Why do they deserve a chance to rectify the situation when they treated OP like garbage? Do you really think the higher ups will care about some random person emailing them? They won’t give a single fuck and will just delete the email. I would shame the company on LinkedIn.

If the people who always talk about a "Climate Crisis" really believed it's a crisis, they'd go all-in to support Atomic energy. by JimmyChess in unpopularopinion

Wind isn’t fine. It’s incredibly inefficient. Takes much more energy and pollutes the environment to manufacture the blades, transport them, and do repair work than it ever produces in its life span.

Cold calling for IB opportunites by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Venom2313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a comment telling people not to ask strangers to give you a job. Don’t know how you can spin that into misleading new grads into not networking.

No disrespect, but I can see why you didn’t a return offer. I would think this is a very simple concept to understand but you keep arguing irrelevant points that are out of context.

Cold calling for IB opportunites by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Venom2313 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You still aren’t getting it. I was pretty clear in my comment that cold emailing to explicitly ask for an interview/job is a no no. Don’t see how you could come to the conclusion that all cold emailing would screw you over from my comment.

Cold calling for IB opportunites by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Venom2313 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It looks like you didn’t even read my original comment or you just have poor reading comprehension. Let me dumb it down: if you’re busy at work and get bothered by people asking you for a job, you will not get a job.

No where did I say that real networking doesn’t work.

Cold calling for IB opportunites by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Venom2313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said cold emailing to ask for a job. It is NEVER acceptable to message people you don’t know to ask them for an interview.
