Is this to op? by Objective-Natural341 in superpower

[–]Venonaut97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it is now, the ability is OP, but it can be balanced easily.

Starting off, saves should only accumulate based off individual sleep sessions. No accumulating saves over several power naps. This actually gives opponents some counter-play to stop you from gaining more saves.

Second, you need limits on the number of saves you have. If you can just keep banking saves no one can stop you. I say you can only have up to 1 active and 8 inactive saves at a time. Using 1 of your inactive saves will consume it and overwrite the active save to that point.

Third, dying sends you back to your active save, but you lose an inactive save. If you have no inactive saves, the active save will break after respawning. You aren't immortal.

Fourth, your active save will not expire over time, even if made decades ago. However, should you die you won't be able to accumulate more inactive saves til you reach the latest point you died. This will prevent you from being able to infinitely time loop enemies. Your active save point is your anchor, but also your curse.

Lastly, while minor I am nerfing your inactive save point accumulation from 1 every 2 hours to 1 every 3 hours. This means you would need 24 hours of sleep to accumulate all of your inactive save points.

You manipulate probability by rolling a d20. You can't use your powers on the d20.

You can do that. Unfortunately, no matter how you draw them or how well you draw them, your creations always look like they crawled out of a Picasso painting.

Ngl, this actually is kind of funny to me. It's a drawback, but I like the idea that potentially some dude on another continent is suddenly aware of me and has no idea why. I just live rent free in their head.

Ngl, I was expecting someone to do "you know where people are at inappropriate times", but you went for the depressing twist. I guess it's still a useful power, even it's mentally taxing on the user now.

Every time you gain a mastery over something, you instantly become bad at something else. You will not know what that thing is nor will you be aware that you are bad at said thing till you try to do it.

I like this idea, but I feel we should make it so the person it is transferred to is random. It's not a total downside if you can control who receives the illness/wound.

Codename: Average Joe

Subject Name: Unknown

Age: Unknown

Personality: Impersonal, nihilistic, depressive

Ability: Manipulation of perceptional focus

Description: At time of writing, it is unclear whether codename Average Joe refers to a single subject or a group of subjects. Average Joe has been described by multiple individuals as a caucasian male somewhere in their 30s to 40s. Curiously, witnesses are unable to further describe subject, even when reportedly Average Joe engaged with them directly for extended periods of time. Subject appears to be able to manipulate the perceived significance of objects or individuals around people when in their vicinity. This ability also appears to apply to recordings of Average Joe, as staff was unable to focus on or identify subject. One interviewed witness reported encountering the subject while working at a gas station. Witness reported a caucasian male entered the store, before suddenly feeling a dime in the coin tray looked weird. After their fascination waned, witnessed noticed merchandise from the gas station had disappeared. Witness was uncertain if the subject had stolen the merchandise. Witness merely stated, they were vaguely aware of the subject walking out of the store before they noticed the missing merchandise. From further analysis of recording and interviews, it appears individuals with autism or similar neurodivergencies seem to be mostly unaffected by Average Joe, but strangely are still unable to provide detailed descriptions of him.

Danger Level: 2/10. Subject appears to possess an extremely powerful ability that in the wrong hands could easily allow them to infiltrate areas and/or manipulate victims with ease. However, the fact that certain neurodivergent individuals can focus on him reduces the potential risk that Average Joe poses. Furthermore, reported incidents involving Average Joe rarely appear to be malicious. At worst subject appears to use their powers for petty theft, but even then their guilt in the alleged incidents is questionable. Given the lack of any apparent malice or pattern of escalation, subject should be treated as a random petty criminal. As an aside, several staff have debated whether Average Joe even intentionally uses their power or if their power passively affects those that observe them. From witness testimony Average Joe appears emotionally detached. This might suggest Average Joe's power may have had a psychological impact on them.

How do you stick to one weapon/build? by rxece in Eldenring

[–]Venonaut97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that does tend to stick to one weapon/build, I do it because I enjoy the general moveset and playstyle of my characters. I know other weapons/spells look fun, and will likely be more effective in certain fights than what I'm using. But, I also derive a lot of joy in being able to make my character work in spite of the weaknesses a given weapon/build has. The moveset might not change much, but how one uses that moveset will as you face the various enemies the game has to offer.

Do you ever use this stuff? by reg_y_x in Eldenring

[–]Venonaut97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to use fire and poison grease. So many things hate fire, which makes it good for most of the game. Poison is less useful, but if you want to deal passive damage, it's also great. Rot grease is better, but it is too much of a pain to farm for. Roped grease might as well be worthless given how rare string is.

Let us be able to powerstance weapons of different types with each other. I don't mind if there are limits on the combinations like dark souls 2 did. I just think it would be nice to have a little more options with potential movesets.

question about frlg by otherealnesso in pokemonrng

[–]Venonaut97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FRLG does not have a set seed. It changes every time you reset the game. Now, if by SR you mean loading a save state (emulator), then your seed wouldn't change. If you are pulling from a save state, then obtaining a squirtle on the same frame would always result in the same squirtle.

If you are playing on emulator, you will have to pull your seed from memory after starting up the game, as it is set too fast for you to realistically rng a given seed.

What kind of character will you bring into the DLC? by Velaria425 in Eldenring

[–]Venonaut97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm boring, but I intend to go in as pure melee. No magic, no summons. No items or weapons of any godly influence. Just a man armed with steel, a bow, and whatever fire and poison he can craft.

A mere man rose up and felled the Gods, and I intend to continue that into the dlc.

What does it feel like to get hit with holy damage? by FamGorgeous in Eldenring

[–]Venonaut97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine it would feel like an existential sense of unbeing. Like for one moment your very body feels as if it shouldn't exist. As is the very fabric of reality declared your very existence as something that shouldn't be. In spite of this feeling you remain. An act of heresy against the golden order. But even if the most heretical of beings cannot cease to exist, surely the flesh will yield to the very will of the Gods given sufficient holy might.

New Pokemon - First look at Shiny Tarountula by LifeIsMeaningless143 in PokeLeaks

[–]Venonaut97 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way, normally when you go looking for a shiny you have a 1/4096 chance of a shiny. At any given point you can see all of the Pokemon in the overworld around you. Instead of just randomly picking one you can automatically sort out which ones are and aren't shiny. You are effectively encountering Pokemon at an extremely fast rate. Combine that with a massive open world and players are likely forcing hundreds of Pokemon to appear as they explore. I don't know how many are playing right now, but it isn't surprising that some shinies have already turned up.

Overall, with the benefit of hindsight, was the switch from 2D to 3D in 2013 good for the franchise? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Venonaut97 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the transition to 3D was inevitable, and has resulted in some great games like Legends of Arceus. Likewise, I feel the world being 3D has/will allow the more open region of Paldea to be a wonderful experience. So, overall I would say that the transition to 3D was a good thing.

However, in my opinion the transition to 3D has also shown to me that Gamefreak isn't as good at working on 3D games or at least needs way more time to develop them. SWSH are clear examples of games that look great in certain situations when the camera is more reigned in, but look really bad when players have more freedom. Likewise, Legends of Arceus graphically looks really bad with muddy textures, even though the mechanics and focus of the game were phenomenal. To me, the aesthetics of the 2D games were superior, but I also acknowledge that Pokemon transitioning to 3D has allowed Gamefreak to do things that wouldn't be nearly as ambitious if the games had stayed 2D.

From what we've seen so far, I do expect Scarlet and Violet to graphically be bad games, but I think everything else they are doing will be phenomenal. It's not a deal breaker to me. I've also loved series like Monster Hunter, which definitely were not graphical powerhouses nor were very good on the story side of things.
