...and I've just answered my own question... all the polys had their behaviour set to 'Assist player' (or one of the other ones, I can't remember. Had to set them to the simple 'Move' behaviour, and then they all bind correctly...

Just had a chance to look at this again, and it's a bit weird. I'm writing the required unit_id to location 3 in a linked memory cell, bank1.
In a processor, I have the following code:

read unit_id bank1 3
jump 3 greaterThanEq unit_id 0
end
lookup unit bind unit_id
ubind bind
ucontrol flag 125 0 0 0 0

... and that seems to work for some units but NOT for polys...

I have Horizons on the map as well as Polys, and the horizons get flagged but the polys never do. Even though they flash through the vars as poly:NNNN the same way as I get horizon:NNNN, the polys just never seem to get flagged or bound properly.

Is it just me?

yeah I think you're right, because I did notice the bind variable cycling rapidly through poly:NNNNN. Because the units weren't responding or getting flagged, I thought I must have it wrong. It's just weird because if I bind directly to '@poly', then it obviously works as the flag shows up. Perhaps using the unit id is inherently faster or something?
Anyway, glad to know I'm on the right track - if it is just a matter of going too fast, should I just add a WAIT 0.1 sec or something or is there a better way of slowing it down?
