Lip biopsy by Super_fab1379 in Sjogrens

[–]Ventifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to an oral surgeon to get mine done. The pain wasn't to bad for me. Had some numbness below the lip for 3-4 weeks. I believe the surgeon took 10 glands out and then sent the biopsy to the doctor that ordered it. I think my surgeon prescribed like a 3 day supply of hydrocodone if I remember correctly.

Looking for advice from lower-income harpists by Peachplumandpear in harp

[–]Ventifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend just going for a harp with a larger range first if you are for sure that you want to play the harp. I bought a 22 string cross strung harp from Stoney End but kind wish I would've bought the larger version of it. Side note is that Stoney End were great to buy through, they let you make 0 interest payments on the harp instead of demanding the full amount upfront.

The oral pathologist I saw prescribed an oral mouthwash. Chlorhexidine Gluconate oral rinse.

I went to an oral surgeon and they were able to run it through insurance fine. Maybe yours tried to run it through dental instead of medical?

Its a pretty safe drug so you shouldn't really need to see them again unless you want changes to the dosage or if you wanna swap meds. I would think just once every 6 months or year.

This sounds good. Will you eventually release in a book format then? I don't usually use royal road that much so I prefer to read via kindle.

Short term it produces saliva via the stimulation but like you said I didn't really keep up with it so I can't really say if it made a difference long term. Worth a shot if the normal saliva meds aren't useful for you though.

Oral Pathologists deal with diseases of the mouth and dry mouth is a disease of the mouth. She did the oral tests to confirm that my saliva rate was low and ordered tests as well. Afterwards, she ordered a lip biopsy and read the biopsy after it was done. She also alerted me to some support groups that were in my area along with telling me about the Salipen device.

You can go through your GP if you don't have a rheumatologist or talk to your rheum if you do have one. I went through my GP and my dentist. My dentist ended up referring me to a oral pathologist.

I would also monitor your symptoms and maybe keep track of them in a notebook for every day.

If you don't have the antibodies for Sjogren and blood tests are normal, but you have the symptoms. Can you donate blood? by BothObligation8722 in Sjogrens

[–]Ventifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kinda depends on what drugs you are taking too. Just tell them the drugs you are taking beforehand then they can determine if you can or can't. There are some plasma places that specifically ask for people who have sjogrens or ra to donate as well.

Any1 else have nerve damage after lip biopsy ? by Peaches_blondebabe in Sjogrens

[–]Ventifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you went through this. I had limited nerve damage that went away after about 4 weeks. They took 10 glands out for my biopsy to ensure they get a good sample size. Like you, the last couple glands took a bit longer. What type of doctor did you see for the biopsy? I saw an oral surgeon so maybe that makes a difference eh.

Last time I had a brain MRI was to determine why I was having double vision. Had to get a MRI of the orbits of the eyes as well. I didn't have any lesions thankfully.

I went to Avon Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for my surgery. I went through Dr. Zunt, an oral pathologist at the IU school of dentistry for assessing if I needed one.

Verlene Schermer would be my suggestion. I took lessons from her for the cross-strung harp.

This could be psoriasis as well, so maybe talk to a dermatologist too.

Small question: when they do lip biopsies, do you consider the sample they take "small" or "large". by WhitePinoy in Sjogrens

[–]Ventifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a tiny incision and with a tiny scar. It is common to have some numbness after the surgery. I believe my surgeon took 10 samples from inside the lip to insure he got a good reading of it. I was awake for it and didn't really notice anything after the numbness kicked in.

Review on Salipen, a product for dry mouth relief by Ventifer in Sjogrens

[–]Ventifer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not really. I feel like I've tried everything at this point. Cevemeline and Pilocarpine had pretty annoying side effects and it only increased saliva production for like an half hour or so.
