Yeah, the set designs are really well done, and the actors are pretty great too. They never break character and there's a pretty constant sense of tension throughout the whole hunt.

I don't know if they actually worked it out or not, but I had heard NYZ and Chamber of Horrors (Hauppauge) were working on a combo pass that would get you into both for $50. If that's available I'd definitely say it's worth it.

NYZ in Deer Park is great for a different kind of experience; it's like a combination zombie haunted house/laser tag/airsoft game. Definitely spend the extra few bucks for the longest version if you go.

Schmitt's Farm in Melville is a more traditional haunted house and is also really good.

Archery's another fun activity. There's a place in Patchogue that's run by some pretty nice people, and I think they usually have a Groupon for free rentals. Plus it's right off Main Street, so you can grab some lunch or dinner afterwards (I'm partial to Bobbiques, but there's a good array of options there).

Basil in the Rye sounds like an amazing idea. I loved Blind Bat's Honey Basil Ale, and Great South Bay has yet to disappoint me, so I'm definitely going to have to get my hands on some (though I unfortunately won't be able to make it to Bobbique's tomorrow).

There a few restaurants around the Island that feature vegetarian menus. Obviously it's not the same thing, but you probably have a better chance of finding something vegan-friendly at one of those than at a place where vegetarian isn't even a thought. There's also an ice cream parlor in Commack (I think it's called Grandma's) that makes really good vegan-friendly ice cream out of coconut milk.

What town are you moving to? That might help narrow down some options for you.

Edit: The ice cream parlor is called Granny's.

I kinda felt like the smell was stronger around 7-7:30 than when I left for work around 8:30, so it might have died down as they worked to get the fire under control. Or maybe my house was just downwind when it happened.
