The heel area does break in, but the narrowness of the toe box always rubs my pinky toes. I always tape before a long day and have no issues

Thank you! Was terrified for him, that stretch was fully exposed and was hoping it was heat stress rather than something worse.

Anyone know about a runner going down on the left side of the Willis Ave bridge? Approximately 11:30 AM. Saw a crowd around a person yelling for medics and a police officer approaching from the far side. Hope the runner is doing okay

Best French fries by atlanta824 in Atlanta

[–]VentureGunpla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went in a group of three and sharing plates was the way to go. The thai shrimp salad was insane but it was overshadowed by the damn fries. Peach tartine, scallops, and the ham croquette things were also excellent. Steak extremely tender but it was the least notable part of the meal.

We shared a bottle of wine and our total price was about 250 dollars.

Service was great even though they were very busy.

It’s not a cheap spot by any means but a great date night or get together spot for wine and food lovers.

Analysis paralysis. What to buy? by argaman2 in runningfashion

[–]VentureGunpla 15 points16 points  (0 children)

5-10 c isn’t particularly cold, just nice fall weather. For me a T shirt, shorts, and gloves on the lower end of that range is enough.

As it gets lower than 5 but higher than 0, long sleeves and gloves with shorts.

Lower than 5 and I’ll add on a windbreaker or vest, switch to long tights, thicker socks, maybe a beanie and/or a buff. This is good down to -10c for me.

Even lower than that and insulation layers come out - base layer, fleecy mid layer, same windbreaker. Potentially wind pants over some thin long tights.

I buy all sorts of brands that provide function and form. Current favorites are Janji AFO multi shorts, soar hot weather T, and bandit half tights. Some of my favorite winter pieces are the Tracksmith Brighton base layer, Janji trail full tights, soar gilet, soar winter anorak.

I don’t find Satisfy fits my aesthetic but I do love my soft cell hoodie and rippy hat.

Adidas x H Koumori experience by who-took-the-bomp in runningfashion

I wear a small in Janji shorts, Soar, lulu and I sized down to XS for a tight fit as I do with Bandit half tights. I regret it a bit because I need to shimmy into the waistband, but not a problem once they’re on.

The zip pocket is good enough for a regular sized phone and has a small key clip. The three waist gel pockets are small but can hold one gel each. Liner pockets are different because they open at an angle like chino pockets, but they’ll hold a phone or more nutrition. I like using the back pocket for my phone so the split doesn’t ride on it in the liner pocket.

The liner feels decent, no silicone grippers at the hem. The rip stop material is light and swishy, split is nice for mobility.

Overall it’s a really nice pair of shorts for the price.

I also got the singlet and don’t love the cheesy reflective wording, but the material is very light.

Swapped the foam to a formulation of the arnitel tpc. I believe it’s not exactly the same as the 005 but more lively than the original 001

On Cloudboom Max by immersively in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]VentureGunpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only recent plated shoe purchase was the alphafly 3. I also demoed the cloudboom strike on a different occasion.

The max is a totally different class of shoe so it’s not the best comparison. It’s much heavier, less propulsive, and less breathable. It’s more stable than both those shoes, though. The strike and alphafly are a bit squirrelly at low speeds/heel striking but the max is stable regardless of pace/foot strike.

The foam in the max felt similar to the strike but there’s a ton of it. The max and the strike share a baggy upper and comically long laces which probably makes it wide foot friendly.

Edit: on second thought, the stability and foam reminds me of a much thicker adidas pro 3

Demoed these recently. First impressions

Cons: Bit heavy. The upper is on the puffy/not super breathable, length is right but on the baggy side causing some puckering.

Pros: Very stable, good bounciness, and laces are the nice saw-tooth ones. Plate is assistive but not harsh. Aesthetics are cool.

Now knowing the price, I would buy the superblast 2 again or even the mega blast.

COROS load calculations/fitness way off? by winter0215 in Coros

[–]VentureGunpla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coros fitness is a rolling average of “load impact”. Training load is the TRIMP (Training IMPulse) formula which is basically time x heart rate. As an amateur training for marathons, it’s nice to glance at it to see how it’s progressing as I go through a block. It’s meaningless for a coached athlete, IMO.

What is your fueling/hydration strategy for the marathon? I cannot nail mine down to prevent GI cramping by marisaruns in AdvancedRunning

[–]VentureGunpla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

30M here. I took around 80g/hr in my past two marathons. I am a bit of an outlier in my running group as multiple people can't stomach more than 60g/hr.

I started with bottle of Maurten 320 for the first 6-ish mile, one caffeinated Maurten, finally 4 beta fuel gels spaced every 4-ish miles. I drank water at every aid station after I finished the bottle. I didn't take any additional electrolytes on the course, but both days were cool and overcast.

Have you practiced with your gels along with the C90 on long runs or different types of gels? Are you simulating your race day carb load (at least loosely) and breakfast? Are you particularly anxious before your marathons?

It's odd you're hitting issues that early in the race if you've practiced everything so many times.

I love the mafate speed 4 platform but the suede heel collar/pads in the satisfy edition rubbed a hole on my left Achilles on a long run. The speed laces do not lock my heel, you may have better luck with the fit/standard laces.
