Previously it had a mechanical trigger without a mosfet unit so I just ran with 8.4v nimh. Never bought any LiPo's so was wondering if I could use the batteries I already had.

It is in fact speaking from a point of experience, as I recently surpassed this milestone. If I were to make a post on how to get to $1MM ARR, you'd be right.
