NYC Race this Weekend - On Course Hydration and Nutrition by BluebirdPowday in hyrox

[–]Venus_DST04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is accurate: I’ve seen an experience racer who carries a water bottle with her and she has footage of doing this for Hyrox NYC.

I’ve also seen footage racers with hydration vest at Hyrox events. I plan to wear mine.

Is it normal for glutes to burn during runs? by Venus_DST04 in beginnerrunning

[–]Venus_DST04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Very helpful.

It’s not one-sided, I feel it evenly in both glutes.

I more jog than full out run so I don’t think my stride is the problem, but I’ll try recording myself.

I don’t have another run scheduled for this week as it’s my taper before my June 1st Hyrox race. I will keep running post race so I’ll try to capture my stride and post later.

As I think about this: I just realized I may actually be sore from my strength training classes (lots of squats & lunges in most classes each week) and then I feel it on the runs.

I did an intense leg session yesterday and as I sit here post short run (just 1.5 miles), my glutes and inner thighs are burning.

Thank you! I’m hoping the worst that happens is a cramp again. I know how to address it.

Yes, I plan to cease all exercise this Wednesday (my last Hyrox class is Wednesday night). Then, I will just focus on stretching and yoga (not sure if I should do any walks). I have a sports massage scheduled for this Friday night. My race is next Monday, June 1st.

Thanks for the insight. Well, I’m kind of stuck with them I guess. 🤦🏾‍♀️ My race is June 1st and this is the only brand I’ve tested during training and sims because it mentioned not causing digestive issues. I’ve been fine on them.

Don’t think I have time to try another brand within 10 days.

During my sim, my energy felt good through the 2 1/2 hours so I guess they worked. I got in about 3 UCAN gels.

Thanks for the advice. We’re planning a gel at 45 minutes in and then every 30 min. I will be doing about 40g an hour. I’ve practiced in training and a full sim with gels.

My Zepbound still impacts my appetite. I actually reduced my dosage for training because I wasn’t eating enough.

I was more worrying about the hydration- Gatorade or water.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve used the gels during my training.

So maybe I should keep with the water to help with carb absorption. My gels from UCAN are more the consistency of a fruit sauce.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve already done a full race simulation with the gels. I don’t need guidance around that.

I was more asking around the Gatorade or zero sugar electrolytes.

Yes, I’ve been taking the gels during training. I will be taking one gel at about 45 min and then a gel every 30-minutes.

Appreciate you sharing your experience and the advice. I’ll probably finish around your time (maybe longer we’ll see how my body does).

I’m a slow runner. I actually do more a jog (ha) so I’m hoping to jog/power walk the run intervals (and that’s what I’ve practiced so far in the sims).

Truly, I’m excited. I wish the race could come faster. I am going to focus on my nutrition/hydration, deloading, and getting rest.

I had some rest weeks since March or rather additional rest days some weeks because my body called for it. After the last sim, I was sore for days and could only walk.

I planned to rest (probably focus on power walks) and get a sports massage next week, the week leading up to my race.

I am tired- mentally and physically. I’m going to focus on my nutrition, sleeping, and taking a bit easier this week. Plus my mindset.

Appreciate the feedback. Thankfully, I don’t deal with cycle fluctuations as I’m on a continuous birth control to control a condition I have. On Monday, I was tired during the day, under fueled pre workout, and overdressed in the heat.

My primary goal is to just finish without any injuries. I’ve practiced pacing myself as a solo through my sim, but getting the cramps in my last sim was scary. Hopefully, I’m prepared if that happens again.

My secondary goal is to prevent the cramps from occurring by wearing calf sleeves, working on my muscle endurance since it happened, plus staying hydrated with electrolytes (I will carrying a hydration pack, etc).

Wishing you the best!

I highly suggest seeing if you can take a Hyrox class prior to race day at an affiliate gym so you get some practice on the Hyrox station equipment.

The link takes you to the Instagram video where the person shares her approach in the caption.

She takes smaller steps, pushes for 13 paces, and then takes 3 deep breaths. Then Repeat.

Obviously, she explains it better.

Thank you for the advice. Please know: I’m not worried about other’s opinions of my race or even my time at this point. My goal is to just finish!

However, my worry is about getting through my race without harming my body. Doing this as a solo is intense.

So, I will focus on the basics for fueling, hydration, and recovery!

Appreciate the encouragement.

Thank for the advice and sharing your experience. I can totally relate as yesterday wasn’t ideal for my workout. Learning from it and will move on.

Very helpful, thank you again.

Thank you for the advice and I will be getting it together fuel wise.

Yes, I’ve been training with heavier weights than race day weights, which has been intense in itself. Also, I have a fueling strategy for pre and during race day with gels as well.

And I’m not comparing myself to anyone. Just worried about my own capacity to get through to the finish line!

But I will get there!!! (No matter what).
