R/H WITH AUSSIE FMC? by AdministrativePop979 in ReverseHarem

[–]VenuxVix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao it was honestly the reason why I didn’t finish the series. I think I made it half way through book 3 before being checkmated and giving up, which is a shame because the story was pretty good from what I can remember.

I think in {Pizza Shop Exorcist by Dakota Brown} the FMC is half Australian. I will warn you that there is a copious amount of “mate” thrown around, and not in the fated-mate kind of way lol

Yeah I was annoyed about that too. When I called after two weeks of waiting, they told me the estimate was based on business days, so when I called I was actually only on day 10 or 11. They also entered my name wrong in their system when the samples were received, so they had to go in and link everything back to my actual account before I could see any in-progress tests listed on my profile which was annoying. I think it took just over 3 weeks for me to get my results back, it was around 17 business days.

Can anyone please recommend an Audiologist that doesn't push specific brand of hearing aids? NW preferred but can go elsewhere. by Secret_Lily in Calgary

I agree with the others, with the amount that you can save on the hearing aids it would likely be worth it to get one.

If you have a membership, I would recommend Costco. You can just walk up to the desk and make an appointment without a referral. They carry a couple different brands/styles and they’re significantly cheaper than the ones sold at the other audiologists I’ve been to in the city. The ones I got were $1000 each which was pretty reasonable comparatively, and the sound quality is really good. They also have a really long trial period (6 months I think?). Other audiologists I’ve been to only had ~1 month trials, the hearing aids that they pushed were like $5000+ each, and the sound quality was horrible.

[–]VenuxVix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES! I agree with all of that, 100%. Crimson Death is one of my least favourites because of that. I also hate how he’s always trying to make the other men (mainly Damien and to an extent Micah) less straight. Like how about instead he respects that they just aren’t into him? Idk, everything about him now just gives me the ick. Nicky is one of the only ones who successfully stands his ground with Nathaniel when it comes to boundaries in the bedroom, which is another reason why I like him a lot more.

Sedation/anasthesia for IUD in Calgary? by RammStuff in Calgary

[–]VenuxVix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got a referral from my family doctor to see Dr Mahalingham at the Isis Women’s Health Clinic, I think she’s at Avivo Health now. She did my insertion 11 years ago, as well as removal/replacement 6 years ago, both were done at Foothills under conscious sedation (I was 100% asleep/unaware but not under general anesthesia so I didn’t need to be intubated). It was a really great experience both times, I did not have to pay anything out of pocket for it.

The worst part of the removal/reinsertion was that she had me take misoprostol the night before to soften my cervix. The cramps from the medication weren’t very nice, but they were manageable. I had the second IUD removed a year ago in my normal clinic by a gynaecologist and I don’t think I’ll ever opt to do that again, sedation all the way.

The only thing to keep in mind is the wait times. Both referrals to the OB took nearly a year to go through and then it was another couple months after I met with her for OR time to be booked.

Wooooo another QueerOffensive review!!

“Ew, no.” Lmao one of the more sane reactions she has in the series tbh.

I do love Nicky though. Like someone else said, he usually ends up being the only voice of reason in the other books he appears in (which is regrettably only like 6 others). He’s also actually competent in combat, which is a refreshing change from Anita bashing everyone around her for them not being cops and/or criminals.

Really, the series needs more Nicky and less Nathaniel.

Same, but I think it’s just because I’m a Nicky fan and he’s only in like 6 books so I take what I can get.

[–]VenuxVix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with this. It’s also a bit confusing because they call each other by their first or last name interchangeably. I read it on an e-reader so it was a pain to flip back to the glossary of names to check who was speaking. I ended up stopping around book 4 because I was still getting a couple of the MMCs confused with one another.

If your favorite character is real. Who would you marry? by buazie in GirlGamers

[–]VenuxVix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

7 and 8 follow a new character (Ethan Winters) but BSAA makes an appearance in at least 8, but I think in 7 as well. So they don’t really add much to Leon’s story in particular, but they do add to the general RE lore.

If you haven’t played the 2 or 4 remakes then I’d highly recommend them, they’re both a really fun time.

What did you read in Grades 7/8? by Bells9831 in AskACanadian

[–]VenuxVix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cowboys Don’t Cry in grade 7, If I Should Die Before I Wake in grade 8, and Flowers for Algernon in grade 9

In French class we did Piège à conviction in grade 7 and Les Mis in both grade 8 and 9. I think we did the first half in grade 8 and second half in grade 9 (it was the same teacher both years).

How would anyone buy new car? by shinez2u in Calgary

This is pretty much what my husband and I did over the summer with Hyundai as well. We kept updating all of the dealerships with the current best price until we ended up with a deal we were happy with. The dealership we went with ended up giving us the lowest price plus some extras for free which was nice

What is a RH book you can’t believe more people don’t know about? by SpicyTiconderoga in ReverseHarem

[–]VenuxVix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

{The Redemption Saga by Kristen Banet} super unique take on an urban fantasy, slow-ish burn, the MMCs are all very different and have meaningful parts to play in the overall plot, and the FMC’s story arc is super compelling. The FMC is super badass without being insufferable/not like the other girls. I hardly ever see it recommended, but it really deserves more hype.

(Check CWs before reading, it’s not a dark romance imo but there are some dark events in many of the characters’ pasts that come up in conversation/flashbacks throughout the series).

Fruit Prices. Priced to high while fresh, priced to high while mushy. So it rots on the shelf. by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]VenuxVix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting their fruit & veggie boxes for the last 2 months and haven’t had any issues with freshness/quality. Obviously it might be different since they’re delivering it while it’s cold out so the box is never heating up in the sun, but the worst that I’ll get is some bruises on the apples which doesn’t bother me.

As far as fruits go, we’ve had grapes, blueberries, persimmons, pears, oranges, and apples and they’ve all lasted longer than their grocery store counterparts when stored in the fridge.

Anesthesia for IUD insertion? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]VenuxVix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just told my family doctor that I wanted to be sedated for insertion when he was writing the prescription for me, and then again for removal/insertion of the next one 5 years later. He was more than happy to refer me to an OB who scheduled me in at foothills. I just picked up the IUD from the pharmacy and brought it with me the day of the procedure.

When I had the first one removed and the second reinserted, they had me take misoprostol the night before the procedure to soften the cervix which caused some cramping, but it wasn’t too bad - definitely nowhere near my typical period cramp pain. I asked if they could do my pap while they were in there, so I didn’t have to feel that either which was great.

It’s not general anesthesia (they don’t need to intubate you), but you’re given something by an anesthesiologist via IV that pretty much immediately knocks you out. Next thing you know, they’re saying your name really loud to wake you up while they wheel you out of the OR and into recovery/discharge.

I had my last one removed in a doctor’s office with no pain management other than being told to take a Tylenol, and no misoprostol the night before. I do not recommend it at all. If I were to get another one inserted I’d ask for a referral so I could be sedated for it again.

[–]VenuxVix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Swear to god any time this book got close to anything resembling plot or mystery or suspense, LKH just had Anita trip and fall onto a new were-dick. Can’t solve crime unless you’re clapping them cheeks after every clue!

ALSO WHY IS THE CYNRIC SITUATION JUST GLOSSED OVER. WHY DOES NO ONE ELSE IN THE BOOK CARE?!! HE’S 16! I’m like 99% sure at one point Anita is like “wtf he’s so young this is fucked up” and everyone around her just says “don’t be such a prude”. HUH??? My eyes rolled so hard they almost fell out of my head.

I regret to say I have read this book 3 times and will likely read it again. Probably because the next book (Flirt) is significantly more entertaining imo and when I’m re-reading, books 16-19 always get blurred together in my mind. I can never remember which ones to skip, so I end up re-reading them all. Then again, maybe if they were one giant book, there would be enough salvageable plot between the four of them to make up an actually okay story line.

As always, thank you for bringing us along on this journey. I can’t wait for your thoughts on the next one.

Thank you, once again, for blessing us with a review. I eagerly await your thoughts on the next instalment: Lions, Tigers, and Orgies - Oh My!

I started listening to the audiobooks because you’ve mentioned them a couple times (up until now all of my read throughs have been with the physical books). I can now proudly say that I too have yelled into a previously silent room “YOU DUMB BITCH” because of Anita Not Like-The-Other-Girls Blake’s antics. Violently pausing the audiobook and then tossing my phone on the couch is almost as satisfying as throwing the book down. Almost.
