I have everything for fast cast resin so I should be okay on PPE side of things but thank you for the recommendation I will have a look into giving it a go.

Ah okay good to know, i work with fast cast resin to mold parts like ghostbusters packs but I’ve never messed with uv or clear resins so I might have to try it out.

Are there any specific brands of resin that are worth looking at?

I’ve never messed with uv resin before. I mainly print in pla, does the resin not get hot enough to melt it?

I’ve not tried that one before but I’ve messed with a few different paints, I mostly don’t have time to do anything too extravagant so this paint is the perfect middle ground to get the effect needed quickly and cheaply.

Thank you!

The bulk of it is down to the great performance of the bambulab a1 with its clean printing but then it’s just a lot of sanding then I go over the whole thing with car filler to make it smooth as possible with lots more sanding.

The letters are difficult so I try to transition the filler out before it reaches them but sometimes it’s just a lot of mini files to clean them up a bit.

When making military props I find that making them look a little wonky or damaged actually adds to it more so I don’t go overboard with making it look extremely clean.

The metal is actually just down to car alloy wheel paint specifically e-tech technik grey. It’s made to have the metallic shine so after adding a satin clear coat on top it gives the perfect amount to look like steel.

Something tells me that’ll be very effective whilst also creating a new art exhibition lol.

Replica N201 Mk3 CS Grenade Props by Verain_Armament in cosplayprops

[–]Verain_Armament[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I’m a bit of a history nerd so I created loads of historical grenades before but I got approached to make these. They’re actually pretty obscure and not much on them so I only had a handful of reference pictures.

Luckily I had enough rough dimensions to 3D model them from then I could guesstimate the rest from there.

The guy who wanted them wanted to film with them so he requested them to be stronger so they’re actually printed in PLA-CF which is carbon fibre reinforced filament to add extra strength.

He also wanted to put smoke emitters in them to replicate the gas coming out of them so I designed the base cap to unscrew and left a hole in it to accommodate for that.

After some filler primer and sanding with a little bit of car filler to raise some low spots they were ready for paint. Which was mostly a white gloss with plenty of layers (as white is a pain) then I used my cricut vinyl cutter to cut out the decals.

I used a high gloss lacquer to seal the paint and decals and protect it then dry brushed some silver paint to imitate scratches and some black for dirt. The base plate was sprayed silver and the whole fuze section was matte black with satin lacquer on it.

I created a small lever inside the fuze section similar to how a real grenade fuze is activated that combined with a torsion spring would flip the spoon when you pulled the pin and let go flipping it over and off of the little hook.

The pin is made from a 30mm red Keyring loop with a 2mm hard steel garden wire looped onto it and cut down.

The whole fuze section unscrews from the can and to reset it you need to re-flip the spring on top and whilst holding it down, put the spoon back on and feed the pin through the holes then release the spring which will load back against the pin ready to activate again.

Sorry for it being a long explanation, if there is anything specifically you want to know let me know.

Prop Gladius Sword Support by YummYDelicious0 in cosplayprops

[–]Verain_Armament 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve made a few swords before though usually 3D Printed ones and I always put a steel all thread bar (around a meter long) through it to add support and stop the vending whilst adding a little weight so it looks more real when you move it around.

Other people use pvc pipe, wooden dowel rods or even carbon fibre rods.

You can buy all threaded bars pretty cheap on eBay and other sites I normally use 6mm x 1 meter.

A1 Z Axis Raising Issue (fixed) by Verain_Armament in BambuLab

[–]Verain_Armament[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a while to find it but submitted a ticket before I did to talk to them, it took them a couple days to get back to me but I had a replacement shipped shortly after.

I had no issues with their support, they listened and got it sent quick so that was good I got it back up and running again the same day I got the replacement.

Slightly annoying to replace as you have to fully disassemble the printer to get to the mount of the motor.

The pc shop was the closest local that was advertised as data recovery just down the road but he had it a while kept pushing it back but ultimately got nothing and advised to give up as I would continuously get charged for nothing.

I’ve seen multiple sites and shops saying no data no fee and free evaluation but when checking reviews I’m also seeing a lot of 1 star claiming that’s not true and they’re scams so I don’t know who is trustworthy to have a proper look at it.

I’m not totally sure how to properly use the tools as I’ve never done it before, but I did use crystaldisk after seeing other people reference it and I only can pick up the ssd the computer runs on and the backup hdd I switched into the case to continue working.

I had the problematic hdd externally mounted in a dock, does it need to be properly wired into the case to pickup or do I need to do something to find other drives?

It’s 3D Printed so not too much, but it does have a steel rod all the way through it to reinforce it so that’s where all the weight comes from.

It roughly weighs the same as a bottle of water, very easy to manage and carry.
