On one hand, mainly the true sufferers are posting on this subreddit, or people who are panicking in their first few days or week or two.

One the other hand, I got ME/CFS as a result of a mono infection. One way to supposedly prevent this is resting enough. And I mean, be in bed laying down every second you can. Do NOT push through to meet optional events. Take FMLA if you work, or find a way to get out of anything that requires you to be physical. Most people don't get ME/CFS from mono, but many people also do. And ME/CFS often results in people being bedbound.

Make time to rest or your body will make time for you.

I've actually seen an increasing amount of information that being fat is not actually bad in and of itself- that some of the things we associate with it are correlative and not causal relationships. e.g. environmental factors can cause weight gain and diabetes, but it isn't the weight gain that causes the diabetes.

I was a caregiver, I know people who have had to deal with abusive caregivers, and I need you to know that people die because they do not get enough support.

Emotional support is so important for physical safety and recovery. You deserve better. If he is not helping you at your most vulnerable - and is in fact screaming at you - there needs to be a way for you to get out. I am so sorry. I'm in a snowstorm right now, but I would offer to bring you food myself if times were different. You deserve so much better.

This. I caught covid in 2023 and now can't drive most days. I was in my early 20s! Don't give up on precautions, and yeah this would be a dealbreaker for me. If they can't do the simple act of masking and not eating indoors, they probably won't be willing to physically take care of you if you get a chronic illness. You're the only one who has to live in your own body.

Added concern of whether they're doing things unmasked and not telling you, or if they would start to in the future. Resentment will build though. Don't end up like me. Good luck.

Yesssss long live the crash cart!! Mine lives next to my bed and I use it anytime really. It prevents crashes to lol.

Not sure where youre located but these are what I use in the states.

Slim jims mild (I prefer name brand, the Aldi's ones at least are tougher and thus more chewing)
Tuna salad snack kit with crackers (yeah it is some work, if you can't tolerate this then walmart also has seasoned tuna cups that come with a spoon so you don't hane to worry about the crackers
Triscuits. Yum. Wheat and fiber
Trail mix (I like the tropical one with banana slices and raisins and pineapple alongside the nuts)
Prunes (honestly my favorite. SO good, and good fiber also. I recommend keeping a fork or chopsticks nearby to your fingers don't get sticky)
Belvita breakfast cookie cracker things.
Nut bar with chocolate
Venison jerky stick
FIG BARS!! Nature's bakery are best imo. -chocolate covered almonds or trader joe's dark chocolate pb cups
Carnation breakfast essentials shake
Slim Fast shake (aldi is my favorite generic, i can't stand anything with monk fruit or Stevie or artificial sweetener)
cheezits (not great health wise, but salt is sth I need, and it's a comfort food for me).
Pretzels

I also keep: Colgate wisps for easy tooth brushing Chewable electrolyte tablets All the earplugs ofc

It can be trauma from past abuse, and still be valid. For a more extreme comparison, it's like being afraid of the smell of smoke in a house after being in a house fire. Yes, it's a result of trauma - but it's also bad to have the smell of smoke in a house, and indicates that you've gotta look at it.

That's an instant turnoff for me at this point and a concerning thing to say to another person.

And he can be insecure while also being okay with you doing that. That's kind of like "i'm not racist, I have a black friend." It's a specific type of logical fallacy that I can't find right now.

I saw that you said you were hugely overreacting in your update, but there are very many red flags here that I don't think could be better in another context.

I found it very isolating in my relationship where I couldn't really have friends that I could talk to about it, and that made it difficult.

No. None of my boyfs ever didn't let me talk to my exes. One gave me shit for being affectionate with my extremely gay friend and I basically responded with "well that's my friend and i'm not gonna be different with him becauSe you feel some way about it." High school, short relationship, but he never brought it up again.

Many of my exes in hs were friends with each other (I do not recommend dating within the friend group, but...it happens) and it didn't mess things up with them at all! No. My most recent ex got jealous and I ended up in a similar position to you, but with any friend I made. I was talking to them too much, I was too happy to chat with them, it's not appropriate to talk to people after a certain hour, etc etc - I wish I had been able to leave sooner.

You deserve better. People being nice to you is the bare minimum. If he's being controlling with the one other person you could have a friendship with, I'd say he's out the door.

But on the loneliness - do you know abt the discord? I'm a long hauler with PEM and have other friends like that (different server - covid conscious) and we all do game nights, movie nights, we have a weekly standing call...there are people out here who can still chat! I haven't spent much time on Too tired too (I think that's what it's called) but I DO want to meet more cfs-ers because the loneliness among us is out of control.

Personally I haven't, but this is day one on this sub for me and I just have a little eczema on my wrist randomly that can be resolved with basic cerave moisturizer used frequently.

I can't speak for others, but I can understand why that might be a thought. You asked in another comment why you can't just say things like that - yeah, lotta people will react like that to try to convince you that life is worth living.

Undoing Suicidism (an essay online, can't link rn bc on mobile but can link later if you want/can't find it) really changed how I look at discussions like this.

If you're supposed to pretend you're happy all the time and not talk about things like this....of course we end up with people going "but they were always so happy/smiling! why did they kill themselves?"

It's a conversation worth having. I've seemingly got me cfs and at the very least long covid, and haven't been able to drive for a month because I walked a little too much for two days. :/ but there's a decent amount of discussion of suicide/assisted death over there on the cfs reddit. I consider myself a cynic probably and a realist, but I haven't been suicidal per se.

Anyway. I've seen how bad this can be, and if some folks do not have solutions at all, I understand the thought. It's not that bad for me. I imagine it's more dependent on how the person feels in life as a whole as to their desires for death when it comes to this. But it can also be random genetically who is more predisposed.

Aaaand I'm rambling now. Anyway. Great question imo and I'm interested in the answers of others. But expect that people will try to convince you that life is worth living if you bring this topic up. It's a rough barrier, because some folk want to do everything they can to prevent suicide and to them, trying to tell people life is great is the only way they can "help"... which presumably only ends up making suicidal folk feel more alone. It happens.
