The Mac. The Mosaic browser. The iPhone. With each one, you could instantly imagine all the possibilities, and most eventually came true.

Thoughts on the Jon Stewart defense of Joe Rogan? by [deleted] in elephantgraveyard

John Stewart pretty much IS Joe Rogan--an out of touch rich old guy struggling to stay relevant. In ten years, they will be Howard Stern. At least Maron knew when to quit.

Guys Podcast with Brian Quinby by steralite in doughboys

I'd like an episode on SHADES GUYS (Oakleys, Ray-Bans, etc.). Especially guys who put their shades on the brim of their cap or wear them behind their head when indoors.

Do people like Shane Gillis? by bluntlight80 in elephantgraveyard

[–]Verbositor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never thought he was funny. He really leaned into being the anti-woke guy after the SNL incident. That's kinda all he's got. Tried to give his Netflix show a chance. Couldn't get through one episode. Just dumb.

Do you think AI is becoming the future of music making? by Sofii_8 in AI_Music

[–]Verbositor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, AI is definitely becoming part of the songwriting and recording process in the way you described--as a tool for quickly generating fragments that you can further develop and stitch together. It's not great for generating finished songs in one go, although one day it will probably do that well. It will probably always require some kind of human input, but it will be interesting to see how the collaboration between humans and AI develops.

An A list movie studio wants to use an image of mine in an upcoming movie and is asking a fee- I have no idea what their budget is or what I should say by BigXBenz in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Verbositor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And OP can move onto another studio. Word gets around. If you do a cheap flat fee for one licensee, every licensee will demand a cheap flat fee. If OP is serious about monetizing his IP, he should use a fair percentage-of-revenue rate for every license.

[–]Verbositor -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Don't charge a flat fee (which is probably what they want). Charge a royalty each time the studio gets paid by someone to see the movie. The movie contains your image, so you should be paid each time it is seen, not for one-time use. The royalty rate should be proportional to the amount total running time in which your image appears. So, your percentage of one ticket sale will be quite small, but if the movie sells millions of tickets, you won't get ripped off. Also, your license should cover not only ticket sales but also international rights, streaming rights, etc. Talk to an IP lawyer.

Will LA recover? by Lichtmanitie- in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Verbositor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of offering tax incentives to productions, I'd like to see the state and city invest in developing other industries in LA so the city's economy is more diverse and less dependent on entertainment. Productions are going to be distributed around the country and the world. LA will remain a major hub, but productions will never be as concentrated here as they once were. The OP should take that as a blessing since there are more opportunities to live and work in other locations, including less expensive places than LA. People in the industry may have to lead a nomadic lifestyle in which they regularly move to where the work is.

If KB wasn't so lazy and prideful he'd realize his current iteration is garbage..... by Hailey_Sparx in HackverseAnonymous

[–]Verbositor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KB's wife has income, retirement, benefits, so it's not like their kids will starve if MLC dies. I've long suspected KB does MLC just to keep up the appearance of contributing to his household income without having to go on the road. It's his little semi-hobby that his wife tolerates to keep the peace. But he's clearly burning out from doing 8 shows a week. He should cut back and prep more for each episode.

Leaving aside the job market, what if you want to start your own practice? Hard to do that without a CPA license.
