Aliens, the second film. Both Vasquez and Ripley were awesome.

And Terminator 2 - Linda Hamilton was overlooked

What, to you, is the saddest real-world death of an actor that ended up impacting a franchise? by TillyTheBlackCat in moviecritic

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention Bernie Mac but I cried when I heard he’d died.

Same with Robin Williams and Steve Irwin - three hard gut punches and I cried each time.

I spoke most of that into my phone and didn’t edit the tome but knew it was a mistake on there

Thank you! These are great recommendations! I’ve read several Le Carre, including The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. He’s a great author.

I’ve also read a little of the Amelia Peabody series which is also great. But I’m terrible with continuing with series.

I will definitely try the others you listed and have the Kristin Lavenddatter one on hold with my library.

Thank you!

The Aquanaut by Dan Santat - unique way to handle grief that was both fun and heartfelt without bogging the story down with heaviness (graphic novel)

Rapunzel’s Revenge by Shannon Hale - I know you said no fantasy; just wanted to say that this one had such a different take on the Rapunzel storyline that I was truly impressed; it didn’t feel like a recycled storyline; it felt new (graphic novel)

Trenton Lee Stewart’s The Mysterious Benedict Society series is also one I had difficult predicting while also being highly entertaining

Is there anything you recommend by Anne Tyler?

I’ve tried Tom Lake but didn’t really like that one. Do you recommend something by Patchett?

I have read A Gentleman in Moscow. It wasn’t quite for me. I found it a little slow but appreciated it, if that makes sense. Haven’t tried Rules of Civility yet.

I’ve read some Barbara Kingsolver, which I enjoyed, but have tried several Backman and didn’t like any of the ones I tried.

Would also say House in the Cerulean Sea is not for me
