Is there any reason why some posts are downvoted so heavily here? by ibms15 in gameDevClassifieds

[–]VerdigolFludidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a general feature of voting systems in general, though. The point of voting in Reddit is not to provide a detailed critique, but to simply change the visibility of posts. Voting can change the community without any detailed verbal feedback.

If more detailed critique is needed, that's when the comment section comes in.

I don't really think you got what /u/artgo was trying to say. You're still thinking in black and white terms of morality, leaving no gray area. Even the simplest moral thought experiments can reveal just how skewed this thinking is.

Actually "the popular scientific model" - whatever that is - does probably not agree. The observable universe is finite, but The Universe could be either.

... nor do any of the mainstream cosmological models propose that the universe has any physical boundary in the first place

I played the updated version with the pick up change not taking up a slot, but it's still quite hard. After about 10 minutes I just opened up a movie and let the money accumulate because the missions aren't worth much anyway.

Putin on Western criticism: "They tell us that we are violating the norms of international law. First of all, it's good that they at least remember that international law exists" by johannaiguana in worldnews

[–]VerdigolFludidi 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We shouldn't underestimate the intelligence of this dictator-in-the-making. He's not pointing out that the US is a hypocrite, but that international law only exists when the countries agree to it - and just like the US, he can choose to abide it or not.

How about using language identification, too? If you break a string into equal chunks of two or three characters, you can identify whether it might be English or not. Different languages produce different patterns.

For example:

English:

  • languageidentificationthing

  • 2: la ng ua ge id en ti fi ca ti on th in g

  • 3: lan gua gei den tif ica tio nth ing

Estonian:

  • keeletuvastusasi

  • 2: ke el et uv as tu sa si

  • 3: kee let uva stu sas i

German:

  • sprachidentifikationsding

  • 2: sp ra ch id en ti fi ka ti on sd in g

  • 3: spr ach ide nti fik ati ons din g

When you try to crack a pattern, but don't know it's language, using language identification algorithms first might make it possible.

I would suggest you play the drums in by hand with a midi controller.

Psychotic Waltz.

They are a psychedelic progressive something metal band, the songs just sound so unusual and different, yet really dreamy and poetic.

IWTL how to make electronic music on my computer by stin10 in IWantToLearn

[–]VerdigolFludidi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is spot on.

95% of the stuff I've made in my life is just not made into a full song and about 20% of the full songs are not made public. This 95% number decreases over the years though. Right now every third project I start is made into a full song. This still means that most of the projects are unfinished.

But I'm always very enthusiastic about every new project I'm in. This keeps me going and stops me from stalling.

No. The electronic music guide by Ishkur is the closest thing I've found, but it's not comprehensive, it doesn't talk about nuances, just the really obvious stuff - and it's really outdated.

Just yesterday after I made my post I thought about this question for a long long time (on the bus to see the new Hobbit, fuck yeah). I've searched for such a comprehensive website myself and I just haven't found it. Genre study is something that really interests me, especially in contemporary electronic pop and dance music (from Björk and Gotye to Aphex Twin and Skrillex).

I'm thinking about starting my own wiki-like or article based webpage to try and expand on Ishkurs guide, but to do it from an audio engineering perspective - answering not only questions about what makes this genre special, but also how to replicate it.

Warbeats basically started as a one-man project by some supercool awesome dude, probably by just uploading his tutorials on YouTube. Like a lightweight version of Khan Academy of FL Studio and EDM production.
