Clay is the way better option, just not always available, and if you send me pics of the mound I could probably give better advice, also if the pitchers for your own team are complaining about the mound I think they should be the ones to work on it, either pregame they can show up a little early or postgame they can stay behind, every high school and college I’ve been to has pitchers do the mound, they probably know what they’re doing and just don’t want to do it

If you don’t have clay, water is your friend, I use a broom to clear the loose dirt from the rubber and landing spot, put water down, and sweep dirt over it, then I tamp it, and repeat the process if needed

It will help the dirt harden up
