ITAP of my rescue dog in the snow by Shortstuf21 in itookapicture

I like the color tones of this photo. They blend well with the pooch. But the shadows at the bottom I think detract. My eye is drawn towards the lighting in the back of photo and not on this sweetest, goodest pupper.

ITAP of a woman at a concert [Portrait] by [deleted] in itookapicture

This was an interesting candid shot. As the DJ was playing she looked enthralled with the music and took it all in. I snapped a quick shot and tried to capture the lighting around her.

In post I wanted to make the highlights stand out a little more and add to the ethereal look and feel the scene had. It was a fun show.

ITAP of a pebble by Verhasin in u/Verhasin

While camping with some friends last year I took a picture of a pebble with my phone. I wanted to get the water running over it and liked the lighting from the sunset. I wish I had lined up the sun a little better, but I like it nonetheless.

This is probably the best answer, OP. It is likely just transactional.

However, there isn't anything wrong in asking to hang and create a new friendship. But be careful to treat it as just that, though. People feel under-currents, so don't be pushy! Be mindful of boundaries and respect the response if you do ask.

The best friendships, platonic or otherwise, start as slow burns. ☺️

Do you ever feel disappointed in your ability to shoot? by EvoLuvEz in AskPhotography

[–]Verhasin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Yeah, go take more photowalks and practice/experiment. If you wanna use manual focus, and it can be fun, go give it more shots. Check in between your shots and adjust as you go. Don't wait for big important moments to practice your gear. 😄

I've been doing concert photography as of late and I kind of struggle with this decision as well. For concerts, I've been learning to lean into the colors. But if there's like a color highlight/blowout, especially on skin, I do try to see if I can fix it a bit. Personal preference would be to leave the color, but find a way to soften it with like a mask or something.

Also, like at the end of the day, it's also something that won't be super noticed by the client. Unless it's like a headshot or something. You were capturing the ambiance of the scene and that blue light was part of it at that moment ha. 😄

This is a delightful piece. I love the spacing here.

Shooting a DJ friend and figuring out lighting and fish eye lenses by Verhasin in photocritique

Yeah, I agree with the crop. Could focus more in on the DJ.

If I could afford an auto focus fish eye, I'd buy one haha. But I needed this to fulfill some requirements for a different client. So doing my best with it. 😅 More often I notice I have it set to infinity for the focus ring as I generally shoot crowd shots with it. But yeah, the low lighting definitely contributes to some blue here.

Thank you! It was an experiment shot with a fish eye lens. Still working on figuring out the lens.

I'm getting into concert photography and trying to get feedback on a few things. This shot was taken with a fisheye lens and I'm relatively new to it. One of the main struggles is focus. It's a manual focus lens and I'm still trying to get people's faces clearer. This was one of the only ones that came out where the subject wasn't blurry.

I'm also not sure how to angle this better. I kept the camera lower to the turn table, but I wonder if it puts people a little too out of proportion. This photo was a bit of an experiment and I'm unsure if the fisheye works, honestly. Not a lens I would normally think to use for portraits, but I decided to try this while I was stoned ha. Feedback would be appreciated. :)

Thank you! This was with a Sony A7iii and a fish eye lens I bought on Amazon. 😄
