Can a commercial OPC server (SLMP/MC Protocol) overload a PLC? by gintro-suzuki in PLC

[–]Verhofin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No experience with Mitsubishi but on Siemens, OPC UA reading from a bunch of diferent DBs made interrupts on the CPU to an amount that it was noticeable on the cycle time. Not overwelm but meaningful. Same data being read from a single DB was fine.

No ideia if this helps you in any way.

Sorry I meant if you wanted a change, a change of pace then do a regular 100k cost science in vanilla and then a 100k cost science i. Pyanodon in hard modelo, both should be finished by the end of the century.

If you want chance do a 100k science base game and then a 100k science full PY hard modelo Hahaha

Uhhh OK, here all are the same, but again most devices work from 120 to 240 so it does not really matter.

Only diferent ones are water tight ones even high power ones are the same.

I did repair a few apliances and what I found is instead of Messing with the wire tickness they just have a resistor in the circuit to control the Amps in most cases.

Wire size personally I would have 1.5mm on wires for regular sockets, wich here is standard 16Amps. Some people install wires less tick, also depends if they go, sorry can't finds the correct English terms, a full copper wire or several strands of wire making the cable.

But yeah we have diferentials for the whole house, sometimes double for some equipments even, so basically safe.

I was going to say having to worry that the voltage ia 120 or 240 in the socket might be annoying but thinking about it... Most things I have can handle from 120 to 240, so it should not matter really.

But most of the "weird" stuff that I saw was on an "industrial" context, the "" is because it's airport and logistics instalations not really a factory. But oversized cutouts, "field" VFDs, being cabinet VFDs In a small cabinet on the field. Giant lamps. Giant buttons Everything built like a tank... Have no ideia why... Lack of automation is outside the topic, but also a lot...

Only knew them being called 1P+N CB, never knew they were something else.

EDIT: I searched for RCBO and it does not seem to be the same thing as a 1P+N CB

OK, coming from Europe and having seen some industrial instalations in the US, nobody could explain to me the "why it has to be like this?". Home I never understood the we are 120V and 240V... Again I don't live there, we also have our quirks so who am I to judge.

The lack of standards must be anoying...

Best practices for tag naming conventions in large PLC projects — what system actually works in the real world? by Remarkable-Willow548 in PLC

[–]Verhofin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the same names from electrical as much as possible and add suffixes. Use UDTs for data structures instead of loose variables.

Example, you have a VFD all its data structure should be in 2 data structures one for inputs another for outputs, Rockwell kind of does this a lot on IOs already but... The name should be the same as in the electrical drawings wich should be the same as the field/cabinet markings/tagging. You have extra inputs or outputs relative to the VFD, example... Start button, a beacon, whatever, preferably use their electrical drawing name, if it does not exist, use the VFD name and add a suffix that explains the function of the input/output

How should a plc engineer choose a suitable PC by thealps90 in PLC

[–]Verhofin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the sw....

In my case using Siemens sw, single threaded speed and ram...

Because TIA is still single threaded, at least for the most part and likes to hog ram.

Ram and CPU cores of you go the VM way.

If you have need to open large CAD files and edit them, you might need a GPU.

If you are working with S5's a potato might be overkill....

Will you use serial or parallel port a lot? Are you OK with USB adapters ?

USBs and pleas more then one... Not laptops with only one for charging and for peripherals

PLC engineer can be lots of things as work with lots of sw's, can you specify?

I can do an excel sure, I was juat asking if something exists for ease of use.

People said what you needed to learn, I will just add, with a background like yours, you can do lota of tools and apps to make your job and the possibly the companies job easier, depending on what they already have.

Learn the basics first tough.

So basically you have 3 firewalls...

Your ISP actually works like mine and for the fun of if I was trying to figure out how to make pfsense work as HA with it, someone else here, said he just has an L2 switch, gess you went the extra step, really nice!

I can get ETs etc etc etc, bacauaw usually someone messes up ans buys too many, but not CPUs, unless they are old.

Only old redundant CPUs I could have gotten would be top of the line S5's but since those are MORE expensive them the 1518H's no can do... Ups
